Funke Adesiyan: Things You Didn’t Know about Her

Known for her intriguing roles in Yoruba movies, Funke is certainly one exciting Nollywood actress.

In this post, you’ll find out many things about her.

Her Story

Funke claims to have made her first one million naira as a seventeen year old. Two years later, she had built her own house.

Funke started out as a model at the age of 13 and by 14 she had begun running her own business. This was what produced her first one million naira and led her to building her first house while she was still a teenager.

Funke’s story doesn’t end there. At 24 she already had three degrees, two diplomas and a degree. Funke would later get involved in politics as a 25 year old when she ran a presidential campaign for Mallam Shekarau. It would be recalled that Ibrahim Shekarau was one of the presidential candidates at the 2011 Nigerian general elections. Shekarau was a former governor of Kano State and an ex-minister of Education

After the election, Funke opened a fashion outfit in her hometown but a series of unfortunate events made her lose almost all of her investments.

It was a major set back. But Funke found her way back to the top and she’s currently running several successful companies.

Education

Funke studied Performing Arts at the Olabisi Onabanjo University. She also bagged a diploma in Law from the same university. Prior to that, she had bagged an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) at the Ibadan Polytechnic.

Politics

In 2015, Funke contested under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party for a seat at the Oyo State House of Assembly to represent Ibadan South East. She was quite excited when she scaled the primaries as she took to social media to express her delight.

But she lost the election along with a substantial part of her wealth. Nonetheless, she still managed to throw a party after elections as an opportunity to thank her fans for their support.

Fashion

Funke owns a fashion outfit, La’venette. According to her, all the clothes she wore in the movie, Eti Keta were designed by her.

Saidi Balogun

Funke dated the popular Yoruba actor and producer, Saidi Balogun. According to her, she was drawn to him because of his good heart. She noticed he was quite straight forward in his dealings with people and was always willing to help those around him.

He also had a great sense of humour which she really liked but unknown to her the actor had some major issues. This would later manifest and subsequently lead to the end of her romantic relationship with him.

According to Funke, it was domestic abuse that broke her relationship with the filmmaker. It began not too long after their relationship became official. The first time it happened, it was in the middle of an argument and the next thing was a punch to her face. He claimed it was just a mistake and it would never happen again but unknown to Funke, this was just the beginning of what would be many months of domestic abuse.

Saheed would beat her over every little thing but she never thought of leaving him because he was always apologetic after his behaviour.

But when she noticed the abuse wasn’t going away anytime soon and that she could probably lose her life, she had no choice than to call it quits with him.

Interestingly, the abuse didn’t stop after their relationship ended as he began monitoring her movement and he didn’t hesitate to attack her a few more times. At some point, Funke had to employ bodyguards just to be safe from him.

Her break up with him came at a time when Eti Keta was about to be premiered. It was actually four days to the premiere when she called him and told him she was ending their relationship for good. Funke also starred in Eti Keta.
