Early Life and Education
Deinde’s real name is Deinde Babatunji Okabujo and he is a native of Lagos state. He was born in 1988 in Lagos state. He spent most of his growing up in Lagos state where he obtained his nursery, primary, and secondary school education. The secondary school he attended was Saint Gregory’s College in South-West Ikoyi, Lagos State. It was during his secondary school days at Saint Gregory’s College that Deinde developed an interest in music, leading him to join his school’s choir. In 2003, he wrote his West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination at St. Gregory’s College. Deinde then proceeded to study Business Management at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. He completed his undergraduate programme at the said university and acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He returned to Nigeria afterward.

Music Career of Deinde
Deinde developed an interest in music right from his teenage years, starting as part of his secondary school’s choir. Although Diende revealed that the reason he participated in singing in the school’s choir was as a means of escaping punishments, he soon developed a genuine interest in music. Throughout his secondary school days at St. Gregory’s College, Ikoyi, Deinde always participated in music-related extra-curricular activities until he wrote his final papers.
Upon completion of his university education at the University of Leicester, Deinde returned to Nigeria. And in 2015, he decided to participate in the 8th Edition of the MTN-powered Project Fame. As a participant in Project Fame, Deinde was exceptional. His singing and on-stage performances were praised by fans and judges alike. One such standout performance of Deinde on the show was when he did a cover of Olamide’s hit song titled Melo Melo. He also had a stellar live performance with the now-late Sound Sultan, singing Aiyemi. Diende and fellow participant Anderson stunned the audience with their joint performance of Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s See You Again.
Deinde performed several popular numbers on-stage for the MTN Project Fame. He performed Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry, Freddie Jackson’s Rock Me Tonight, Banky W’s Jaye Ori Mi, Elton John’s You Feel the Love, and Eddie Grant’s Electric Avenue. As Long as You Love Me by Backstreet Boys, Beautiful Girls by Sean Kingston, Crazy by KC and Jojo, and Flying Without Wings by Westlife are some other songs that Deinde performed on the stage of Season 8 of MTN Project Fame. He made it to the final six participants of the show alongside Ada, Anderson, Arewa, Jeff, and Pearl. According to how the fans voted, Deinde finished in the sixth position while Jeffrey Oji emerged as the winner of the Season 8 edition of the MTN Project Fame.
A year after the MTN Project Fame show, Deinde released a single titled, Marry You. This uptempo number which boasted rich high-life instrumentation was produced by Kris Beatz and mixed and mastered by Swaps. Later on, Deinde released Aiyemi, the song which he performed on-stage with Sound Sultan at the Season 8 edition of the MTN-powered Project Fame.
His first body of work as an independent artist was titled Ambient Works, which he released in 2018. Ten songs made up the EP, including Particle, Mountain Meditation, Pulsing Fog, Sunset Meditation, Dreaming, Stars, Relaxing Meditation, Night, Dark Sky and Mantra.
On September 26, 2020, Deinde’s music career took a turn for the better when Davido offered him a record deal with Davido Music Worldwide(DMW). The first song Deinde released under the DMW imprint was Kolome, a catchy melody that was produced, mixed and mastered by Saszy. Empire was responsible for the distribution of the song across various digital platforms. Months later, the video of Kolome was released, and it was directed by Dammy Twitch.
Deinde is also known for his songwriting skills, a notable mention being co-writing Davido’s hit song, Jowo. He’s credited with writing several other songs. Deinde has collaborated with several artists in the music industry, including Olamide and Sound Sultan.
