-
Early Life and Educational History of Ladipoe
Ladipoe, whose real name is Ladipo Eso, was born into a middle-class Yoruba family in Lagos State. He hails from Ilesa in Osun State, but from birth, he had lived in Lagos State until he left to obtain his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina where he studied Biology and Chemistry.

Music Career of Ladipoe
While a student at the University of North Carolina, Ladipoe developed an interest in music, leading him to co-found two music groups, Collectiv3, and Lyrically Equipped. Upon his return to Nigeria in 2014 after obtaining his degree in Biology and Chemistry, he decided to focus on music. As an independent artist, he released some rap songs but these songs didn’t give him relevance in the industry.
His breakthrough in the Nigerian music industry was signing a record deal with Mavins Records in 2017. He became the first rapper signed to the label since its rebranding in 2012 from Mo’ Hits. The first single he released as a Mavin Records act was Man Already, which was produced by Altims. But what gave him visibility in the music industry was his feature on Show Dem Camp’s Feel Alright, which received massive airplay on radio stations across the country.
In 2019, two years after signing for Mavin Records, Ladipoe released Talk About Poe (T.A.P), his first official extended play project. T.A.P, which was a hip-hop/rap EP, contained ten songs with support from both Nigerian and Ghanaian musical artistes such as Seyi Shay, Tems, Sir Dauda, and Efya, among others. The songs were received well by rap lovers across the country, such as Falling, in which Tems lent her voice, One Step Close featuring Funbi, and Mood.
Months later, Ladipoe dropped Jaiye. Jaiye further boosted Ladipoe’s relevance in the industry, increasing his fanbase in the process. In 2020, with the release of Know You, which featured Simi, Ladipoe’s career peaked as the song went viral across several social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. On radio stations nationwide, Know You also received massive airplay, contributing to the song’s popularity. And on digital music streaming platforms like Audiomack, Spotify, and Boomplay, the song recorded over 80 million hits. Know You earned him and Simi the Best Collaboration award at The Headies 2020 edition.
In 2021, enlisting the help of BNXN (previously known as Buju), Ladipoe released a major banger titled Feeling. Feeling was an astounding success that even toddlers sang along to the lyrics whenever it came up on the radio, television, or social media. All over English-speaking African countries, Feeling was the club banger that got people on their feet. It’s still revered by many, even in 2023. Three times, the song peaked at the top of the TurnTable 50 Chart. What a feat that was. At The Headies 2022, Feeling won the Best Rap Single category.
Towards the end of 2022, particularly on 7 November, Ladipoe dropped a 6-track EP titled Providence. The EP had Rema, Amaarae, and Fireboy DML as guest artistes. The songs that make up the Providence EP include, LOTR II, Afro Jigga, Law of Attraction, Running, Law Essential, and Providence. Ladipoe has been featured on several hit songs of other established acts such as Overdose and Won Day Mo which featured Mavin Records artistes.
Ladipoe’s success story in the music industry also includes performing on stages of concerts and sold-out live shows, such as when Multichoice, the organizers of Big Brother Naija, invited him to perform in the opening ceremony of the sixth season of the show, Level Up. He also performed at Fireboy DML’s Apollo Tour in the United States.
