  • Music Career of Skiibi

Skibii’s official entry into the Nigerian music industry was when he signed a record deal with E-Money’s Five Star Music record label on December 24, 2014. One of the perks of the record deal he signed was a brand-new 2014 Hyundai sport utility vehicle (SUV) he was gifted. Barely four weeks after he had been signed with Five Star Music, he released his first official single, Stay With Me which featured Kcee. Shortly after his first song dropped, he was enlisted to sing a verse on Chimbalin’s single titled Kilimanjaro.

In August 2015, Skibii faked his death. The news of his death went around Nigerian cyberspace, only for Skibii to resurface hours later claiming it was a stunt. He received lots of backlash from his fans and the Netizens at large. However, the incident was instrumental to the increased fame of Skibii at the time. Riding on the wave of his new-found fame, Skibbi released London, a single which featured Reekado Banks. Although the song boasted considerable airplay, it did not provide Skibii with the breakthrough he desired until he dropped Ah Skibii, a single that featured Olamide, in 2016. The collaboration with Olamide proved useful in making Skibbi more relevant in the music industry.

His breakthrough came with

the release of Sensima, which featured Reekado Banks. The song became a nationwide hit that received positive reviews from both fans and critics alike. Sensima featured on numerous music charts when it dropped. He also released Sampu, Ogume, Omaema, and Aiye Mii

Towards the end of 2017, just three years after he had signed a contract with Five Star Music, Skibii left the record label. Upon leaving, he immediately launched his record label which he called More Grace Music. Skibii decided to focus on creating his first extended playlist. But before the release of his debut EP which would be released towards the end of 2021, Skibii went on to drop several singles that enjoyed commercial success and massive recognition across Nigeria and Africa, and even beyond.  Some of those songs include Daz How Star Do, which featured Falz, Teni, and DJ Neptune; Bygone, Are You Vhere, Emotions, Big Engine, Banger, and Baddest Boy.

In November 2021, Skibii dropped his debut extended playlist titled God is Bigger Than Man. The EP contained 5 tracks and featured Zlatan Ibile and Crayon.  The songs on the God is Bigger Than Man EP include Money Calls, Tinga, Ma Doubt E, If I Ever, and On G.  The next year, 2022, Skibbi dropped Trenches. The song became an instant hit and went viral to the point its lyrics turned into a lingo across major Nigerian cities. Next, he enlisted Davido’s help on the remix of Baddest Boy. The catchy feeling of the song coupled with Davido’s presence made the Baddest Boy remix stay at the top of music charts, which in turn made the original song, Baddest Boy, enjoy frequent airplay again.

His latest body of work is his second extended playlist titled Life of a King (Aiye Oba), which was released In September 2022. The EP showcased Skibii’s vocal dexterity. The 4-track EP didn’t feature any guest artist. The songs include Bobo, Pawon, Flex, and Kelele. Nophkeys, Fancy Beats, Runcheck, and Freshy were the producers that worked on the EP.

Skibii has enjoyed massive collaborations on other artists’ songs such as T.I Blaze, D’Banj, Dice Ailes, Rexxie, Terry G, Fiokee, Kelvin Boj, Tha Boy Miles, and Naira Marley, among others.
