Right from when he was a teenager, Olakira had always been interested in writing and singing, as well as playing musical instruments. He continued with his zeal for music that while working in a gospel record store, he still wrote and sang music. In 2007, he released an unofficial single but it did not gain any traction whatsoever. In a bid to make more connections in the music industry relocated to Lagos State.

In Lagos, he took a break from singing In 2010, instead, he delved into music production as well as writing songs for established acts in the industry at the time. As a producer, he went by the name “EbenJazz”. He produced songs for several artists such as My Woman by Patoranking; Akube by Dotman; Bam Bam and Juleke by Jazzman Olofin; and Alubarika by Adekunle, among others.

While he worked as a producer, Olakira continued his music education through a local church in Lagos. Then in 2015, Olakira was opportune to meet the Record Label Executive of U&I Music “Ra”, a label known for producing and refining local talent and content. This was the kind of connection he hoped to make when he relocated to Lagos. After three years of rendering technical assistance to the label’s project, Olakira signed a record deal with U&I Music in 2018.

With almost a decade away from singing, Olakira was known as ” EbenJazz”, a record producer. To create a separate brand for himself as a singer, he chose the stage name “Olakiri” (to which he is known by today), which means ‘a shining light’ in the Swahili language. With his stage name sorted out, Olakira released two debut singles titled Hey Lover and Flirty Signal, through U&I Music. He is credited with the production of Flirty Signal. Later in 2018, he released another single titled Olakira.

In 2019, Olakira, through U&I Music, dropped his debut extended project titled Wakanda Jollof. The EP contained 7 tracks, one of which was Aya Mi (My Love), which contributed to the advancement of Olakira’s relevance in the music industry in 2020. Other songs on the EP include Summer Time, Till Dawn, Wakanda Jollof, Money Groove, Ma Cherie Coco and Flirty Signal.

The tremendous success of In My Maserati earned Olakira an endorsement with the Italian luxury vehicle brand, Maserati in January 2022. This would be the first time Maserati would collaborate with an African artiste. He was gifted a brand-new Maserati vehicle and was given access to Maserati luxury cars in any country he visits.
