Sanyeri was born Olaniyi Mikail Afonja on October 14, 1974, in Bola Area of Oyo town in the southwestern state of Oyo. Sanyeri acquired elementary and secondary school education in Oyo State from Saint Michael School, Oke-ebo, and Durbar Grammar School, Oyo town respectively.

In 1992 at the age of 18, Sanyeri’s acting career kicked off. As part of a theatre group called Prince Seyi Adeoye Theatre Group, Sanyeri began performing open stage plays. In this acting group, Sanyeri met Kamilu Kompo, who has also grown to be an accomplished actor and producer. Prince Seyi Adeoye Theatre Group provided a platform for Sanyeri to show his craft as the group was involved in numerous tours across the southwestern states. In 1996, he decided to leave Oyo State for Lagos State in a bid to further his career in the Nigerian movie entertainment industry. Sanyeri and his friend Kamilu Kompo stayed in Ijora and there joined several acting groups such as Odunfa group, Alade Aromire group, and  Ajala Jalingo acting group. It was as part of Ajala Jalingo’s group that Sanyeri refined his acting skills and establish a network.

After four years of tutelage under Ajala Jalingo’s group, Sanyeri sought to carve a path for himself in the movie industry. Sanyeri has featured in numerous films, especially in the Yoruba arm of the Nollywood movie industry. His lead role in the 2007 comedy flick, Muniru Ati Ambali, was the opportunity that projected Sanyeri to the limelight. Some other films he has starred in are Opa Kan, Jenifa, Anike Oni Puffkeh, Okan Esan, Apaadi, Mimi, Olowolagba, Oke Agba, Kowope, Irenimoyan, Baba Ibadan, Ajani Meko, Amotekun, Ayanfe, Titilola, and several others. As a comedian, Sanyeri’s comedic roles offer great entertainment and amusement to his audience that makes them laugh and feel relaxed.

Sanyeri does not only just function as an actor in front of the camera but is also a film producer, and scriptwriter. Okan Eni was the first major film production project by Sanyeri. Sanyeri contributed to Komisona, a 2018 film, in the capacity of a script editor. He was the production coordinator in Saworo, another film produced in 2018.
