Runda’s Music Career
The stage name ‘Runda’ was derived from his surname ‘Olorunda’. Runda has confessed on several occasions that his decision to do music was influenced by Michael Jackson, Wizkid, 2Face, and R Kelly. And in 2016, his career took off, albeit as an independent artist at the time. At the start of his career, he put out some low-quality songs produced in local studios around his neighbourhood. However, almost all of his earliest tracks didn’t enjoy major traction. But in 2019, Runda released Fire Can’t Cool, which became his first track to enjoy massive airplay across the country.
Then in 2020, DJ Neptune enlisted the help of Runda on Bembe, a song recorded under emPawa Records. He, however, was never signed to emPawa at any time as most sources might like to claim. His contribution to Bembe further widened his popularity among music lovers in the country and beyond.
Following the success of Bembe, Runda’s prominence in the music industry in Nigeria grew further. He wrote and released several songs that endeared more fans to him. Some of the popular songs Runda is credited to have released after Bembe include Angelina, Sing, Bam Bam, Wahala, Far Away, and Salema. Runda also released a cover of Davido’s hit song, Jowo. These songs further cemented his status as one of the fast-rising artists in Nigeria.
In 2022, Runda dropped a single titled Good Girl. The song was jointly produced by Ty Cruz and Soundz, while STG handled the mixing and mastering aspect of the song. Good Girl enjoyed massive airplay across radio and television stations in Nigeria. On digital streaming platforms, the song also recorded impressive streaming and download statistics.
Months after Runda released Good Girl, he dropped a 6-track debut EP project titled Runda. The EP was released through the Lit Music Group record label and was distributed across multiple platforms by ONErpm. The EP contained Good Girl and 5 other tracks. No guest artists were featured in any of the tracks. Ty Cruz, Soundz, Dawie, Hisand, and Jay Pomping worked on the production of Runda EP. Aside from Good Girl, the other songs on the EP include Superstar, Monaco, No One, Zombie, and Boogie Down.
The Runda EP was well-received by the teeming fanbase of Runda across Nigeria and other African countries and beyond. The most streamed songs off the EP are No One and Good Girl, however, the other four songs of the EP recorded impressive streaming and download numbers too. In a similar vein, Runda’s music videos on YouTube record tens of thousands of views, a testament to his ever-increasing fan base and audience.
Toward the end of 2022, Runda released another hit single titled My Fault as a follow-up to the Runda EP. The song was praised for its mind-blowing lyrics and rhythms.
Runda is also a TikTok sensation as many people have curated hundreds of thousands of reels and videos on TikTok with his songs.

What Record Label is Runda Signed to?
Many people have the impression that Runda is a signee to Mr. Eazi’s record label known as emPawa. The reason for this is that his breakout song, Bembe with DJ Neptune was recorded under the imprint of emPawa Records. But never was Runda signed to emPawa.
In an interview session on the #Morning Show with Mannie and Mahogany, Runda cleared the air on his relationship with Mr. Eazi’s emPawa record label. He stated that he never signed any record deal with mePawa, but was grateful to Mr. Eazi for the opportunity to record Bembe under emPawa.
Runda is currently signed to Lit Music Group. His debut album was released via the Lit Music Group imprint alongside ONErpm, the digital distribution service. This means in addition to the record deal he has with Lit Music Group, Runda also has a distribution deal with ONErpm which allows the digital distribution service to do direct-to-fans sales of his music, and to distribute his music across multiple digital platforms like iTunes and Spotify.
