Desmond Oluwashola Elliot popularly called Desmond Elliot is a famous Nollywood actor cum politician.

Early life

Elliot was born on the 4th February 1974 to a Yoruba father from Olowogbowo in Lagos Island and a mother from Delta State.

 

Education

Desmond had his primary education at Air Force Primary School in Jos before proceeding to St John’s College in the same state. After his primary and secondary education, Elliot moved to Lagos where he enrolled at the Lagos State University. The actor studied Economics in LASU where he bagged a Bsc degree in Economics in 2003.

 

Career

Elliot began his acting career when he began featuring in soap operas like Everyday People, One Too Much and Saints and Sinners.

Over the years, Elliot has grown to become one of Nollywood’s leading actors with over 200 movies to his credit. Some of these include Men Who Cheat, Yahoo Millionaire and Atlanta.

 

In 2008, Elliot co-produced and co-directed the movie, Reloaded which received 3 nominations at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2009. The actor was also nominated for the Best Actor category at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2009 and 2010.

Elliot has also featured in television soap operas like Everyday People, One Too Much, Saints and Sinners, Santalal and Super Story.

In 2017, Elliot directed the movie, Disguise which featured the likes of Wale Ojo, Nancy Isime and Toyin Aimakhu.

The actor also starred in Esohe which premiered in 2017. The movie features the likes of Desmond Elliot, Toyin Abraham, Jemaima Osunde, Ufuoma McDermott, Mascot Lancelot, Charles Uwagbai and Monica Swaida.

 

Awards

Elliot won the best supporting actor in a drama at the 2nd Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and was nominated for best supporting actor at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

 

Politics

Elliot delved into politics in 2014 although he revealed that the process started as far back as 2006.

This was a response to those who claimed Elliot was just looking for more money by becoming a politician. According to Elliot, he had friends who were in the parliament with the likes of Honourable Dan Mayuku in Delta State who is his mentor. So he had taken out time to learn from this folks before diving into the political landscape.

 

The actor ran for election into Surulere Constituency of the Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress which he won.

Elliot is an advocate of having young people in government. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that young people running for office which has been widespread on social media with the hashtag Not Too Young To Run is a necessary step for the country.

 

But the actor also disclosed his fears that there are not many Nigerians that are mentally equipped to run for office and perform excellently. According to him, the complex nature of Nigeria has made the process of allowing young people into the mix a bit difficult.

However, Elliot proposed that there can be a gradual introduction of young people into politics by the older politicians over period of eight years.

 

Personal life

Elliot is happily married to Victoria Elliot. They got married in 2003 and they have 4 children together.
