Enetimi Alfred Odon was born on 29 November, 1977 and is better known by his stage name “Timaya”. Timaya is one of the most successful musicians to ever emerge from the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria. His powerful voice and energetic performances has made sure he stands out from the rest of the pack. Born and bred in Port Harcourt, Alfred is the last child in a family of fifteen children.
After coming to limelight with his “Dem Mama” song in 2006/2007, Timaya has done everything possible to make sure his name doesn’t fall off the surface of the Nigerian music industry. Timaya is not only a musician but also a CEO, a businessman and an investor. He is the CEO of the music record label “Dem Mama Records”. He formed the label in 2013.
Timaya has Eedris Abdulkareem to thank for his career since he worked with him as his backup vocalist for almost three years between 2004 and 2007 before meeting producer K-Solo and decided to break out and focus on his solo career. Presently, Timaya has over 50 tracks to his name and has sold over 13 million album units worldwide between 2008 till now, from his 6 studio albums.
Timaya is a World Peace Ambassador for the prestigious IIFWP. He also calls himself the “Egberi Papa 1” of Bayelsa. One of his hit tracks “Sanko” has over 2 million YouTube views, “Okwu”, the song he sang with DJ Exclusive has over 3 million views but his biggest hit “Bum Bum” featuring Sean Paul has successfully gathered over 16 million views. Timaya had a mega endorsement deal with telecommunications company – Glo, before switching over to MTN in 2014 for a fee reported to be around N45Million. He refused to renew his MTN contract at expiry.
The singer charges between N2M – N4M per show for bookings and he has some real estate investments including a hotel in Port Hacourt. He owns 2 Range Rover cars (different models), an Escalade Truck, and a Bentley Continental GT (Costs about N31M). He has various houses and he built one multi-million naira mansion for his mother in Benin City.
