Chidi Mokeme is a popular Nollywood actor, television host and model. He is most popular for being the host of the popular reality TV show, Gulder Ultimate Search.

Mokeme made his first movie appearance in the movie titled, Goodbye Tomorrow. He would later feature in another movie that shot him into prominence, Burden of Vengeance.

The actor is known to speak several Nigerian languages which is why he has in scores of English, Yoruba and Igbo movies.

Early life and Education

Chidi Mokeme was born on 17th March 1972 in Anambra State. He attended Salvation Army Primary School in Surulere, Lagos before proceeding to the Federal Government College in Minna in Niger State.

After his secondary school education, the actor proceeded to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu where he graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science.

The actor revealed in an interview that he can speak Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo and that is why regards himself as a full time Nigerian.

Career

Chidi Mokeme began his career as a model before joining Nollywood in 2003. The actor has featured in over 100 Nollywood movies since his acting debut.

Marriage

Chidi Mokeme got married to Jean Olumba Mokeme on the 28th of April 2012. Their marriage has produced two beautiful children namely; Daniel and Noah Mokeme. They had their first child on the 11th of May 2015.

Mokeme revealed that he met his wife when he went for the inauguration ceremony of President Obama. It was a town hall meeting that had been put together to celebrate the new President.

He greeted her and they got talking then one thing led to the other and as they say the rest is history.

Interestingly, she didn’t know he was an actor when they met. She didn’t even know about Nollywood at that point in time.

In 2016, there were rumours making the rounds that the actor’s marriage was going through a storm. About the same time, it was observed that the actor had lost a considerable amount of weight and this has been associated with his marital problems.

Jean Mokeme

Jean is a pharmacist and a medical doctor practicing in the United States of America where she grew up and resides presently.

Although she was born in America she spent some time in Nigeria between the age of 4 and 15. Jean bagged a degree in Medicine and Pharmacy which makes her a double doctor.

Jean revealed that she loves music and fashion. She’s the fifth of 6 children. She was born in to the family of Augustine and Agnes Anumba.

It was recently discovered that Mokeme has a teenage son. He was said to have had this boy many years ago when he was dating Ada Ukoyen. Ada is currently a journalist and former media aide to ex-governor of Akwa-Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio.

Intersestingly, Ada got married the same day her ex-lover got married.

‘76

The actor revealed that this was the most challenging movie for him as it deprived him of a honeymoon with his wife after their wedding.

According to the actor, he had to make sacrifices like leaving the movie location shortly to attend to his own wedding and returning to the movie set almost immediately after. He couldn’t even plan his pre-wedding event because of his commitment to the movie.

Mokeme played the role of a disillusioned army officer who reacted to the situation around him by partaking in the ’76 coup.

Politics

Although Mokeme is yet to signify his interest in vying for any political position, the actor has been known to be quite vocal about Nigerian politics.

Recently, the actor faulted President Buhari’s comment that Nigeria’s unity was not negotiable disclosing that under the present realities Nigerians must discuss how they want to live.

His letter to the President was titled, ‘Mr President, You are right about the unity of Nigeria but…’

According to the actor, his major concern with regards to the President’s speech was the dictatorial tone of the President.

The actor went down memory and revealed that the unity of Nigeria was standing on a faulty foundation. According to Mokeme, the 1999 constitution which is the origin of the country’s unity can be traced to 1963 which was a Military era.

Prior to this constitution, the real Federalism which was discussed with the British in the 1950’s stipulated that each zone should maintain its own economy and political structure and it was this system that was in operation until 1967.

As a result, the actor believes the current constitution is unacceptable as it prevents each zone from operating independently

The actor concluded in his letter by stating that any unity that is based on inequality and military imposition as it’s the case with the current constitution must be negotiable

Recently, Mokeme commented on his social media that he is from Biafra.
