General Requirements for Admission

  • All applicants are required to have credit passes at SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or another approved equivalent qualifying exam in at least 5 subjects which must include English language and four other subjects specific and relevant to the particular faculty chosen
  • The five credits should be obtained at not more than 2 sittings
  • For candidates who wish to apply to Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science and Physiotherapy Programmes, the five credits must include Mathematics and English language and must be obtained at only one sitting. NABTEB is not acceptable
  • Applicants are required to go through the Bowen screening exercise and to complete the University application forms

Direct Entry

Candidates applying for direct entry must satisfy any of the following:

NCE at credit level, ND and approved equivalents with at least a lower credit in fields relevant to the course

At least two Advanced Level passes at an acceptable grade level

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) or Cambridge Moderated School of Basic Studies at acceptable levels

In addition to the qualifications mentioned above: ND/ NCE/ IJMB/ JUPEB or two advanced-level programmes, candidates must also satisfy the ordinary level requirements

All direct entry students are required to apply via JAMB

Requirements for the specific programmes offered by Bowen University

College of Health Science

Candidates must possess credit passes in five O’ level subjects to include English language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology

For Nursing Science Students, candidates with RN/ SRN with five o’ level credits including English language and Mathematics can be admitted to 200 level.

Candidates with a degree in any relevant discipline with not less than a second class lower division can apply for Physiotherapy, Nursing and Public Health

Candidates who wish to apply to Medical Laboratory Science must possess the following:

A minimum of three Advanced level GCE/Cambridge, IJMB, JUPEB at Grade C pass in each of the following: Biology, Chemistry and Physics

A B sc. Degree in relevant disciplines such as Zoology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology or Biochemistry

Faculty of Agriculture

Candidates must possess 5 credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Agriculture/ Biological science, Fishery/ Animal Husbandry, Chemistry and one of the following: Physics, Geography, Economics, Civic Education, Foods & Nutrition, Integrated Science and Information Technology

Candidates of Environmental Management & Control must possess five O’ level credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and one of Physics, Geography or Economics

Direct Entry

Candidates of Nutrition & Dietetics must possess NCE/ND or approved equivalent in Foods & Nutrition or be a registered nurse or an approved equivalent in any other relevant field

Faculty of Humanities

Candidates who wish to apply to the department of English or Department of Communication and Performing Arts must possess credit passes in at least 5 O’ level subjects which are the English language, Literature in English and three other Art or Social science-related subject.

Candidates for the department of History & International studies must have 5 O’ level credits in English language, History/ Civic education/ Government plus at least two other art or social science-related course.

Candidates who wish to apply to the Department of Philosophy and Religious studies must have credit passes in five O’ level subjects which are the English language, Christian/Islamic Religious studies and two other relevant Arts/ Social Science subjects and any other subject.

Faculty of Law

Candidates who wish to apply for a degree in Law must possess credit passes in English language, Literature in English and three other subjects obtained in not less than two sittings. A pass in Mathematics is acceptable

Faculty of Sciences

Candidates must possess passes in five O’ level subjects to include Mathematics, English language, Chemistry, Biology and any one of Physics, Further Mathematics, Geography or Foods& Nutrition for Microbiology students

Direct Entry

Candidates must possess at least any two GCE Advanced level passes in Botany, Zoology, Biology and Chemistry

IJMB/ JUPEB/NCE/ND or any approved equivalent

HND and ND level holders must possess a minimum of lower credits

Candidates who wish to apply to the department of Computer science and Information Technology must possess passes in  five O’ level subjects, to include English language, Mathematics, and any two from Further Mathematics, Biology/ Agric Science, Technical drawing, Basic Electronics/ Electronics, Data processing, Chemistry, Economics

Faculty of Engineering

Candidates who wish to apply to the faculty of Engineering must possess credit passes in five O’ level subjects to include English language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and any other specific departmental requirement

Faculty of Social Sciences and Management

Candidates must possess credit passes in five O’ level subjects to include English language, Mathematics and the social science subject related to the specific course.

For example, candidates of political science, Industrial relations and sociology must have passes in History, Civic studies, Psychology or sociology respectively while candidates for departments such as Accounting or Economics must have passes in Accounting or Economics and any other social science-related subject which may include Commerce, Business Studies/ Education, Financial Accounting/Bookkeeping, Psychology/ Sociology

Direct Entry

Candidates must have at least two passes at GCE Advanced level to include Economics and Government/ Geography/ Mathematics/ Business Method/ Economic History.
