#1 Yaba College of Technology

Yaba College of Technology (YCT) was established in 1947 as the successor of the defunct Yaba Higher College. The college became autonomous in 1969 and has grown rapidly since its early days to become one of the best Polytechnics in the country particularly in terms of Engineering degrees.

YCT has 8 schools, 34 academic departments and 64 accredited programmes which include certificate courses, ND, HND and Post-HND levels.

 

Yaba College of Technology is said to be the first higher institution in Nigeria to establish a full-fledged centre for Entrepreneurship Development, with strong linkages with the world of commerce and industry. The centre offers compulsory courses which must be taken by all students throughout their stay in the college.

The college also has a second campus at Epe. The campus is presently home to the Department of Agricultural Technology and Michael Otedola Information and Communication Centre.

YCT has 12 Engineering Departments and the degrees awarded at this level are the National Diploma and the Higher National Diploma.

Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro is one of the best Federal Polytechnics in the country. The institution is one of the most sought after polytechnics in the country which is largely due to the uninterrupted academic session which it has enjoyed over the last 12 years.

Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro was established in July 1979 and its first academic session began November of the same year.

#3 Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun

Established in 1973, the Petroleum Training Institute (P.T.I.) in Effurun, Delta State was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria based on one of the requirements by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to train indigenous middle-level manpower in order to meet the labour force demands of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and the West African subregion.

 

The Institute awards General Welding Certificates, ND and HND certificates.

Auchi Polytechnic is a Federal Polytechnic that provides excellent training in Engineering.

The institution is located in Auchi in Edo State and it was one of the first 4 Polytechnics that established in the country.

One of the objectives of the Polytechnic is to adequately prepare their students for life the after school as a result as a result; entrepreneural courses have been introduced in all the programmes offered in the institution.

#6 Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna

Kaduna Polytechnic was established in 1956 as Kaduna Technical Institute after the British Government approved the upgrade of Yaba Higher College (now Yaba College of Technology) to a technical institute and also proposed the establishment of technical institutes in Kaduna and Enugu.
