American University of Nigeria Courses & Requirements

American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a private university located in north-eastern part of Nigeria. The school offers an American style of higher education programs at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels. The institution was founded in 2004. It is the only university in Sub-Saharan Africa that follows the American style of university education and is also accredited by the Nigerian National Universities Commissions. This article provides comprehensive information on the courses and programs offered by the school and requirements to be met for admission into the institution.

General Requirement for admission into the American University of Nigeria

  • Students must have met the minimum Jamb score of 160 or JAMB’s yearly official cut off score to be considered for admission at AUN
  • Students who possess five (5) credits passes in O’ level results, to include English Language and Mathematics will be considered for admission. This result must be obtained at not more than two SSCE sittings.  Equivalent examinations are also acceptable from a country that requires other types of exit exams or standardized tests while exceptions are made for some cases. 

Requirements for Engineering and Technology

The minimum requirements for applicants to the Engineering and Technology program is to have credit passes in the Senior Secondary School examination or GCE O’level in five subjects to include Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry. It is also of an added advantage if candidates have credits in Further Mathematics and Technical drawing. In addition to this, candidates must have acceptable scores in UTME.

Bachelor of Laws (LLB honours)
Candidates seeking admission into the Bachelor of Laws (LLB Honors) program must in addition to all other relevant art subject, possess a credit in Literature-in-English.

O’Level requirements are :

  • Completed Application form
  • SSCE, any or combination of (WAEC/NECO/GCE/IGCSE/NABTEB)
  • Transcripts from high school (SS1-3)
  • Letter of Recommendation (from the Principal of candidate’s high school)
  • JAMB result (A minimum score of 160)
  • ID card (International passport/Drivers’ license/National ID card).
  • A personal Essay with reasons why the candidate has made AUN his/her choice and what one’s future ambitions are.

Requirements for Direct Entry/Transfer:

  • Completed Application form
  • Diploma result (NCE/OND/HND) or ‘A’Level
  • Official Transcripts
  • SSCE, any or combination of (WAEC/NECO/GCE/IGCSE/NABTEB)
  • Direct entry JAMB or IJMB
  • Recommendation letter

Required Application Documents for International students

  • End of High/Secondary School External Examination Grades which can include IGCSE, SSCE or its equivalent.
  • Copies of applicant’s High/Secondary School transcripts from the last three years.
  • Undergraduate transcripts and course description.
  • A Letter of attestation or recommendation from the high school or secondary school attended
  • A personal Essay with reasons why the candidate has made AUN his/her choice and what one’s future ambitions are.
  • A photocopy of ID card
  • Valid Passport & appropriate Visa with picture page 
  • Four personal Passport Photographs.
