Access Bank Plc, which is commonly known as Access Bank, is a Nigeria-based multinational financial services organization with headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. Access bank is owned by Access Bank Group. The bank is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the national banking regulator of the country. Access bank used to be a corporate bank.
History of Access Bank
In 2012, the organization acquired personal and business banking platforms from Nigeria’s International Commercial bank. Access Bank is currently one of the five largest banks in Nigeria in regards to assets, loans, deposits and branch network.
Access Bank Plc is one of the largest financial services provider, as of December 2015, Access bank had an asset base in surplus of US$12.2 billion (NGN:2.412 trillion), and shareholders’ equity valued at approximately US$1.86 billion (NGN:367.8 billion)
Currently, Access bank is the largest retail Bank in Africa by a customer base of 29 million with 27,000 staff across 592 branches, in three continents, 12 countries.
On the 1st of April, 2019, Access bank merged with Diamond Bank. This has made Access Bank the largest bank in Africa. This merger was announced with a new logo, which signalled the commencement of a new banking entity, Diamond and Access bank. Access bank’s headquarters is located in the city of Lagos, the largest city of Nigeria.
