  • The Centre for Basic Space Science, Nsukka, Enugu State

The primary aim that the Centre for Basic Space Science seeks to achieve is to initiate and foster the coordinated growth of Basic Space Research. The mandates that this NASRDA CBSS centre seeks to achieve include promoting astronomy and atmospheric sciences into the curricula of the tertiary education system, providing advisory and policy-making roles to government and non-government agencies, as well promoting outreach programs to get the attention of young minds and also to let the general public know the benefits of Space Science and technology, among other mandates.

  • The National Centre for Remote Sensing, Jos, Plateau State

The National Centre for Remote Sensing is involved in the human capacity development of professionals and the public through awareness programs, workshops, and education, including doing research in the field of remote sensing, geoinformatics and GPS technology and their applications in the environment, natural resources and in events of natural disasters. The National Centre for Remote Sensing operates under the framework of the Nigerian Space Policy.

  • The Centre for Satellite Technology Development, Abuja

The Centre for Satellite Technology Development is an autonomous organisation of the Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency. The responsibilities of the Centre for Satellite Technology include the command and control of satellites in orbit, downloading and processing of space imagery and data, capacity building, as well as involvement in research and development in all aspects of satellite technology. This NASRDA centre also creates routine awareness to the public through workshops and conferences for students, private and public officials alike. Engineer Dr. Sadiq Umar is the current Director/Chief Executive of the Centre for Satellite Technology Development.

  • The Centre for Geodesy and Geodynamics, Toro, Bauchi State

The Centre for Geodesy and Geodynamics is chiefly responsible for monitoring and predicting geo-hazards by utilizing space geodetic and geophysical techniques, as well as carrying out earth observation research for the sustainable development of Nigeria.

  • The African Regional Centre for Space and Technology Education, Ile-Ife, Osun State

Following the recommendations of UNISPACE 82 to assist developing member states enhance their local capacity in the use and application of Space Science and Technology for national development, Nigeria was one of the African countries chosen, the other being Morocco. Thus the African Regional Centre for Space and Technology Education was established in Nigeria in 1998 to develop indigenous capacity in these areas: Remote Sensing, Basic Space and Atmospheric Science, Global Navigation Satellite System, Satellite Meteorology & Global Climate for sustainable regional and national development. The National Space Research and Development Agency performs a supervisory role over the African Regional Centre for Space and Technology Education.

  • The Centre for Space Transport & Propulsion, Epe, Lagos State.

This is one of the activity centres for the Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency dedicated to conducting fundamental research in the development of space transport and rocketry. Indigenous scientists with the Centre for Space Transport and Propulsion has completed several experimental rocket launches with varying degree of success. The goal of the Centre for Space Transport and Propulsion is to be able to launch commercial satellites into interplanetary space, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit by the year 2030.

This is one of the top-tier research centres of the NASRDA dedicated to studying and understanding the atmosphere and related sciences. The Centre for Atmospheric Research thus has the capacity for flood warning, search and rescue, and detecting planting season, among others.

  • NASRDA Cooperative Information Network, Advanced Space Technology Application Laboratory-South West (ASTAL-SW)

The Cooperative Information Network (COPINE) is a part of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and is structured to run under the coordination of the National Centre for Remote Sensing, Jos, Plateau State, to achieve the objectives of the Nigerian Space Programme. This NASRDA office engages in providing services relating to map reproduction, satellite image processing, digital image processing and interpretation, and customized training in Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems and other related projects implementation and applications.

  • NASRDA Advanced Space Technology Application Laboratory, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State

The Advanced Space Technology Application Laboratory (ASTAL) is one of the centres of the National Space Research and Development Agency. ASTAL is dedicated to providing geo-informatic consultancy services to various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate Organizations and individuals, as well as promoting and propagating the Nigerian Space programs through seminars, conferences, etc., including creating awareness in the practical application of Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and other related technologies to young minds. Facilities in ASTAL include an AO size plotter, AO size colour scanner, multi-media projector and screens, among others. Dr. Kenneth A. Uchua is the executive coordinator of ASTAL.
