JAMB UTME Subject Combination for Law

To study Law, you have to take the following subjects in your Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. These are:

English Language (This is Compulsory)

Literature in English

Economics

Government

It is best you aim for a grade above 200 in your JAMB UTME. This is so you can be on the safer side since the entrance to study Law is just as competitive as its job availability. Anything short of 200 may deny you admission.

O’ level subjects requirements

Candidates are expected to have at least 5 credit passes in SSCE/NECO/WAEC or its equivalent in the following subjects:  Mathematics, English Language, Literature in English, Government, Economics and any other art subject.

Special Consideration (Waiver)

  • Some universities such as the University of Nigeria do not require Mathematics
  • The University of Ibadan requires credit passes in 5 subjects at one sitting or six credit passes in ‘O’ level subjects at 2 sittings. This must include English Language, Literature-in-English and any other subjects from Arts.

Direct Entry Requirements

Candidates via direct entry resume into the second year, that is 200 level. Such must meet any of the following requirements:

  • Two ‘A’ level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects in addition to ‘O level credit passes in English Language and Literature in English
  • NCE/ND/First Degree (Second Class Lower)
  • Candidates who have a first degree with a minimum of second honours or third class (for a minimal number of schools) plus ‘O’ level credit passes in five (5) subjects to include English Language and Literature in English
  • Some Universities may accept candidates with good Honours Degree into 4-year LLB. Programme
  • Candidates who have experience in other fields related to law and also who possess basic O’ level requirements can also be considered who for admission.
