Some people don’t even know that private medical schools exist. As a result, many have spent years trying to get into the government-owned schools.

In this post, we have put together a list of private medical schools in the country.

But first, just in case you don’t know what it entails to study Medicine at the tertiary institution, here are the details.

Generally, the program, Medicine and Surgery is offered by the College or Faculty of Medicine. It comprising courses which the students have to pass prior to earning the much-coveted MBBS degree.

The curriculum spans six academic years and is divided into three stages. First, there is the pre-medical stage which is essentially natural and pure science-based. The next stage is the pre-clinical stage in which the basic medical science courses are taught. And the final stage is the clinical stage in which the courses focus on the nature of diseases with the systematic instructions in medicine.

College of Medicine, Afe Babalola University

This institution was established in 2009 and it has one of the best private medical schools in the country.

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences was set up with the goals of producing doctors that are able to function effectively as general practitioners (able to deal with common health conditions that are presented in general health care settings), empowered to appreciate and utilize opportunities for self-learning and professional development, sufficiently prepared and motivated for the possibility of specialist and academic postgraduate training.

Also, the College has separate departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology. The centre features a well-stocked library with up to date books and journals in the library for both basic medical sciences and clinical sciences.

Additionally, there are also two E-learning libraries with 150 sitting capacity each with access to large numbers of books and journals.

Bingham University is another private university with a College of Medicine.

The Medicine and Surgery program is a Bachelor Degree program and the admission requirements are highlighted below:

Five WASSCE Credit Passes In English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry And Biology. Also, you need a high score in UTME and the UTME Subjects are Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Bowen University is located in Iwo in Osun State, Nigeria. The University has a Department of Medicine in the same vicinity and it is accredited by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

The institution also offers training in the Department of Family Medicine for postgraduate students and this department is fully accredited by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

Established in 2012, Gregory University is a private university is located in Uturu, Abia State in Nigeria.
