JAMB UTME subject combination (requirements) for Psychology
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is the body that organises the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This is a computer-based examination for prospective undergraduate students in Nigeria. The UTME is an important criterion used for into Nigerian universities and other institutions.
In JAMB, one has to take four subjects. English language is a compulsory JAMB subject for Psychology and will be combined with the other three subjects. You also must make a score above 200 so as to be safe and rest assured of admission with any Nigerian university. Students who have below 200 may be denied of admission or the chance to write a Post UTME.
- UME (University Matriculation Examination) candidates who apply for admission via JAMB are required to take the following subjects: Biology, English language and two other subjects such as Government/History, Physics, Chemistry, and Literature.
O’ level requirements for admission into Nigerian universities to study Psychology include: Five credit passes in the following subjects: English language, Biology or Health Science, Mathematics and three other subjects at Secondary School Certificate Examination/ Ordinary level General Certificate of Education (GCE) which is organized by the National Examination Council (NECO)/ the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or its equivalent.
The five credits required in the WAEC will entail the three compulsory ones which are Biology/Health Science, English language, Mathematics and either of the following:
Government/History
Physics
Chemistry
Literature
A trade subject
Direct entry-level requirements
JAMB is not the only available option to gain admission into Nigerian Universities. If one has difficulties gaining admission via JAMB, one can also try IJBM, JUBEB, ND, HND. These are often referred to as direct entry.
Candidates seeking admission via direct entry are expected to have the following requirements: In addition to the O’ level requirements must have:
- Credit passes in advanced level GCE or its equivalent in two (2) of the following subjects: Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Business, Management, Geography, History and English Literature
- A diploma from an approved or accredited institution in Nigeria.
