University of Ibadan Courses & Requirements

The University of Ibadan, popularly known as U.I was established in 1948. It is the first University in Nigeria. It became a Full-Fledged Independent University in 1962. At first, it was a College of the University of London. The University has a comprehensive list of Academic programmes in sixteen faculties.

The faculties and courses offered by the University of Ibadan are listed below: 

Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry

  •   Department of Animal Science
  •   Department of Agricultural Economics

Programs under the Department of Agricultural Economics are Agric Economics / Extension, Crop and Soil Science, Crop Production, Agronomy, Crop Protection & Environmental Biology, Animal Science, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, Wildlife & Ecotourism Management

The requirements for any candidate who wishes to apply to the departments above are credit passes in five ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at two sittings. These subjects include English Language, Biology/Agric Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and any one/two of Geography, Physics and Economics.

Faculty of Arts

  •   Department Of Music

Requirements: Candidates are required to have credit passes in 5 ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at two sittings. These subjects are to include English Language and any other four or five Arts, Social Sciences related subjects.

  •   Department of Religious Studies

Requirements: Candidates who wish to apply the department above must have credit passes in 5 ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at 2 sittings. These subjects must include English Language, CRK and any other three or four Arts, Social sciences or Science related courses

Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies

Requirements: Candidates are required to have credit passes in 5 ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at two sittings. These subjects are to include: English Language, Arabic and any other subjects Arts or Social Sciences related subjects.

  •   Department of Communication and Language Arts

Programs under this department are Linguistics & African Languages, Yoruba, Igbo, Archaeology, English Language & Literature, French, German, Russian

  •   Department of European Studies
  •   Department of History
  •   Department of Theatre Arts
  •   Department of Philosophy

Requirements: Candidates who wish to apply to any of the departments above must have credit pass in 5 ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at two sittings. These subjects are to include: English Language, two Arts subject and any other Arts, Social Sciences or Science related course.

Requirements: Candidates who wish to apply to any of the departments above must have credit passes in 5 ‘O’ Level Credits at ONE sitting or 6 ‘O’ Level Credits at TWO sittings to include English Language and any other Social Science, Science or Art related subject such as Economics 

  •   Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education

Requirements: Candidates who wish to apply to the department above must have credit passes in 5 ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at 2 sittings. These subjects are to include English Language and a science-related subject or Mathematics.

Requirements: Candidates must have credit passes in 5 ‘O’ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects at 2 sittings. These subjects should include English Language, Literature in English and any other Science, Arts, Social science-related subject.

    • I apply for direct entry with 1st degree B.SC ACCOUNTING with 2nd class lower and with eight credit wesce, can UI offer me admission to study Law ?
