The Department of Business Administration used to be initially known as the Department of Management Studies or the Department of Accounting and Management Sciences in some universities

Business administration aims to develop managers who think and act strategically for the benefit of the business and who are also innovative enough to take advantage of the vast opportunities available in the business world.
Students of Business Administration are taught the concepts and practice of modern management while putting into consideration the environment in which they find themselves; locally, nationally or internationally.
The department also prepares middle-level managers to manage businesses and organizations in an increasingly competitive environment.
Objectives of Business Administration
It is intended that, at the end of the course in Business Administration, successful graduates should be able to:
- Take up management positions at mid-level positions in the private and public sectors
- Implement effective strategies so as to contribute to the growth of the organization
- Manage challenging business situations whether external or internal having the element of cost in mind
- Provide practical workable solutions within the boundary of the objectives and policies of organizations
- Be capable of being self-employed and self-reliant in any given economy.
Admission requirement for undergraduate degree in Business Administration
Candidates who apply for Business Administration via UTME enter for a four-year degree programme. Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes at O’Level examinations such as NECO, WAEC (SSCE), GCE (O’L), NTC, NABTEB, and NBC or any of its recognized equivalent. Subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics / Commerce and two other subjects from the following: Business Studies, Government, Principles of Accounts, Geography, and Biology. The result must be obtained at not more than two sittings.
- Candidates must also obtain the required cut off point at UTME in four subjects, which are: the use of English and three other subjects selected from the O’ level subjects requirement.
Direct Entry Requirements (Three-Year Degree Program)
IJMB/Advanced level GCE (A levels)
Candidates must have obtained at least two main/principal and one subsidiary passes in any of the following subjects: Principles of Accounts, Marketing, Finance, Economics, Government, Geography and Commerce
In addition to the above requirements, candidates must have five credits passes at O’L subjects as required for candidates via UTME.
Diploma level, Ordinary National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND)
Candidates with a Diploma degree from any recognized institution with a minimum of lower credit in any of the following fields: Business Administration, Accounting, Accounting /Auditing, Banking, Finance, Marketing, Purchasing and Supply, Actuarial Science/Insurance, Psychology, Business Studies, Public Administration, Statistics and Financial Studies.
In addition to the National Diploma or Higher National Diploma degree, candidates must meet the O’ level requirements of five (5) credits in O’Level subjects
National Certificate in Education (NCE)
Holders of NCE must have at least a merit pass in any of the following courses: Business Education, Mathematics/Economics, Geography/Economics Secretarial Studies, and Financial Studies.
Professional certificate requirements
Candidate who have passed any of the following professional courses: ICAN, CIB, ACIS, CIS, ACCA, NIM and CMA or ICPA are eligible for admission to Business Administration
All these must be in addition to meeting the requirements of five credit passes at O’ level examinations
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
This is a graduate-level degree that covers a wide range of business fields, such as marketing, accounting and management.
MBA is an internationally acclaimed master of post-graduate level degree.
Admission requirements for MBA
Candidates who wish to study for an MBA must have five credit passes to include English language and Mathematics in O’ level examinations as the first basic requirement
Candidates who have a Bachelors degree with a minimum of a second class lower division in any of the following courses: Management, Accounting, Marketing, Business Administration, Banking and Finance. Actuarial Science or other related disciplines are eligible to apply for an MBA
All candidates must have a minimum of one year experience in a managerial or administrative role so as to test for adequate intellectual capacity, professionalism; maturity and effective decision-making and problem-solving skills. Applications with management work experience are usually at a distinct advantage over others who do not have.
Candidates with a postgraduate diploma degree with a minimum of upper credit from any recognized university are also eligible to apply for an MBA, provided he/she satisfies the minimum requirement for UTME.
Admission requirements for M.Sc Program
All candidates must have obtained five credit passes to include English language, Mathematics, Economics/Commerce at O’ level examinations
Candidates with a Bachelors degree and a minimum of a second class lower in Business Administration/Management from any approved university are eligible for admission
Admission requirement for Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration
Candidates must have five credit passes to include English language and Mathematics at O’ level examinations
Candidates with a Bachelors degree with a minimum of a second class lower division from any recognized university are eligible for admission
Third class degree holders in Management related courses from any recognized university
