How to Gain Admission into Nigerian Universities without JAMB UTME

A lot of students struggle year in year out to pass Jamb exams. The mention of the word JAMB alone gives some students the jitters because they believe that it’s an examination that is difficult, if not completely impossible to pass by the average student.

Some students who eventually manage to pass JAMB have to struggle with another round of qualifying examinations – POST UTME, before they can now fully gain admission into universities or polytechnics of their choice.

A lot of students would rather avoid all of the stress and opt for easier ways to gain admission into the university without having to write JAMB or POST UTME examinations.

There are several ways by which you can gain admission into the university without writing JAMB. Some of the most effective methods include:

1. National Open University of Nigeria

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) was established during the president Olusegun Obasanjo regime. It was established to help students who are advanced in age or engaged with some form of employment or other activities, to also study without having to quit their jobs or go through the stress of the regular academic system.

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has since been embraced by thousands of students all over world.Noun has campuses in almost every major city in Nigeria and the application procedures are pretty simple.

Upon payment of application fee through their E-payment portal, you will be required to fill a form with details of the programmeyou are applying for as well as details of your O’ level results and other required details. If you meet the qualification requirement (which is usually based on meeting the O level requirements) you would be offered admission to pursue your degree without having to write jamb at all.

2. Interim Joint Admission Matriculation Board (IJMB)

Another way to gain admission into the university without writing jamb is through the Interim Joint Matriculation Program known as IJMB.This programme allows you gain admission through direct entry into any Nigerian university that accepts IJMB.

The program would usually last for a period of 12-18 months and is accepted by most northern universities and a few universities in the East and Western regions of Nigeria including Ekiti state university Ado – Ekiti, University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka and Abia State University Uturu, Abia state. University of Ilorin and University of Ibadan also accepts IJMB but for the University of Ibadan, you will still be required to write JAMB and will not be admitted into 200 level.

3. Cambridge A” Level Program

Another way to gain direct entry into Nigerian universities without writing JAMB is through the Cambridge ‘A’ level program. During this program,you would be required to take lectures in participating schoolsfor a period of 12 – 18 months, after which you would be required to write some examinations.Upon passing those examinations, you can apply into any Nigerian universities’ direct entry program.

Other ways to gain admission into Nigeria universities is through Diploma Programs, special certificate programs and part time programs.
