If you did a quick survey to find out if the average Nigerian knows the slogans of the thirty-six states of the country, it is very likely that the result will be abysmal.

In this post, we have decided to make things easy by providing the slogan of each of the thirty-six states in the country.

So, let’s delve into the slogan of each of the states in the country.

  1. FCT Abuja
    Abuja is not one of the thirty-six states of Nigeria. It is the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the slogan of the FCT is, “Center of Unity.” Abuja became the FCT in 1991, a couple of decades after the Federal Government decided to move the country’s political capital to a more central area
  2. Abia
    Abia state is known as “God’s Own State” and the capital of the state is Umuahia. Abia is one of the southeastern states.
  3. Adamawa 
    The capital of Adamawa is Yola. It is also called the “Land of Beauty, Sunshine and Hospitality”
  4. Akwa Ibom

The slogan of Akwa Ibom is, “Promised Land.” The state was created from                   Cross River on the 23rd of September. The capital of Akwa Ibom is Uyo. Uyo is             one of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria

  1. Anambra
    The capital of Anambra is Awka and the slogan of the state is, “Light of the nation”. The state is one of the southeastern states.
  2. Bauchi
    The slogan of Bauchi is, “Pearl of Tourism. The state was created in 1976 when the former North-Eastern state was broken up. One of the major landmarks in Bauchi is the Yankari National Park and this one of the reason for the state’s slogan
  3. Bayelsa
    Bayelsa is one of the oil producing states in the country. The slogan of the state is “Glory of all Lands.” The state was created in 1996
  4. Benue
    Benue is known as the Food Basket of the Nation. The state is reputed for its agricultural products, one of the popular crops is yam. The capital of Benue is Makurdi.
  5. Borno
    The slogan of Borno state is, “Home of Peace” but this seems like an irony considering the spate of the Boko Haram attacks and violence in the state
  6. Cross River
    Cross River is known as “The Nation’s Paradise.” The state is reputed to be the cleanest in the country. It is also known for the Calabar Carnival which takes place every December.
  7. Delta

The slogan of Delta state is, “The Big Heart.” The capital of the state is Asaba.             Delta is one of the oil producing states in the country.

  1. Ebonyi
    Ebonyi is known for its salt lakes which is why it is called, “Salt of the Nation.” The capital of the state is Abakaliki.
  2. Edo
    Edo is called “The Heartbeat of the Nation.” The capital of the state is Benin
  3. Ekiti
    Ekiti is one of the states with the highest number of professors. This explains why the state is called, “Fountain of Knowledge.”
  4. Enugu
    During the colonial times, Enugu used to supply coal to the British due to the large deposits of coal found in the state and this explains why it is aptly named, “Coal City State”
  5. Gombe
    Gombe is known as the Jewel in the Savannah. The capital of the state is Gombe.
  6. Imo
    The capital of Imo is Owerri. The state is one of the South-Eastern state. The slogan of the state is, “The Eastern Heartland”
  7. Jigawa
    The slogan of Jigawa state is, “The New World.” The capital of the state is Dutse.
  8. Kaduna
    Kaduna is known as the “Centre of Learning.” The state is home to several tertiary institutions like the Kaduna State University, Ahmadu Bello University, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology and the Kaduna Polytechnic.
  9. Kano
    Kano is known as the “Centre of Commerce” with a thriving agriculture industry.
  10. Katsina
    The slogan of Katsina state is, “Home of Hospitality”
  11. Kebbi
    The capital of Kebbi state is Birnin Kebbi. The catchphrase of the state is “Land of Equity”
  12. Kogi
    Kogi is the state where River Niger and the River Benue specifically in Lokoja, the state capital. This explains why the state is called, “The Confluence State”
  13. Kwara
    The capital of Kwara is Ilorin and the state is known as “The Place of Harmony”
  14. Lagos 
    Lagos is known as Centre of Excellence. It is said to be the richest state in the country based on its GDP and internally generated revenue (IGR)
  15. Nassarawa
    Nassarawa is called, “Nigeria’s Home of Solid Minerals.” The capital of the state is Lafia.
  16. Niger
    The popular Kainji dam is located in Niger state which is responsible for hydroelectric power supply. This explains why the state is called, “The Power State”
  17. Ogun
    Ogun is called the Gateway State and the capital, Abeokuta is the biggest city in the state
  18. Ondo 
    Ondo is known as the Sunshine State.
  19. Osun
    Osun is known as the State of the Living Spring. The name of the state is derived from the Osun river which is a natural spring where annual traditional festivities are held.
  20. Oyo
    Oyo is known as the Pace Setter. It is the state where the first university was established. The university was initially called the University College, Ibadan but was later changed to the University of Ibadan.
  21. Plateau
    Plateau is known as the Home of Peace & Tourism. The capital of the state is Jos popularly called J town.
  22. Rivers
    Rivers is one of the oil producing states in the country. In fact, it was the state where oil was first discovered. This explains why it is called the Treasure Base of the nation.
  23. Sokoto
    Known for the Sokoto Caliphate and aptly called the Seat of the Caliphate.
  24. Taraba
    Taraba is called “Nature’s Gift to the Nation and the capital is Jalingo
  25. Yobe
    Yobe was created in 1991 and the slogan of the state is, “The Young Shall Grow”
  26. Zamfara

The slogan of Zamfara state is, ‘Home of Agricultural Products’ and the capital             of the state is Gusau
