India is one of the major trading partners of Nigeria. The country regularly exports pharmaceuticals, organic chemicals, nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery, paper and paperboard, iron and steel to Nigeria. In 2015, it was reported by the National Bureau of Statistics that the country imported goods worth N408.572 billion from India.

  1. China

In 2017, the bilateral trade agreement between Nigeria and China stood at $12.3 billion. This represents a 30% increase when compared to the previous years.

Nigeria is the third largest trading partner of China in Africa. Some of the products imported from China include electronics, mobile devices, engineering products, and technical skills for construction projects.

The United Kingdom is another major trading partner. Some of the items imported from the United Kingdom include fashion clothing, shoes, engineering facilities, vehicles, and hundreds of other items. The National Bureau of Statistics revealed that the country imported goods worth over N283.759 billion in 2015 from the UK.

Nigeria imports hundreds of finished and unfinished products from the United States annually. In 2015, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that Nigeria took in products worth N581.99 billion from America last year. Some of these items include clothing, vehicles and electronics.

In 2015, the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that Nigeria imported goods worth N415.4 billion and these include clothes, bags, shoes and several industrial products used in factories.

Export Prohibition List in Nigeria

  1. All types of Foot Wears, Bags and Suitcases excluding Safety Shoes used in oil industries, sports shoes, canvass shoes all Completely Knocked Down (CKD) blanks and parts.
  2. Aspirin tablets (except modified released formulation and soluble aspirin);
  3. Bagged cement.
  4. Ball Point Pens and parts including refills (excluding tip)
  5. Cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose, in solid form in retail packs.
  6. Carpets and other textile floor coverings.
  7. Chloroquine tablets and syrups;
  8. Clotrimazole cream;
  9. Cocoa butter, powder and cakes.
  10. Corrugated Paper and Paper Boards, and cartons, boxes and cases made from corrugated paper and paper boards, toilet paper, cleaning or facial tissue, excluding baby diapers and incontinent pads for adult use.
  11. Cotrimoxazole tablets and syrups;
  12. Fruit Juice in retail packs.
  13. Furniture, but excluding baby walkers, laboratory cabinets such as microscope table, fume cupboards, laboratory benches, Stadium Chairs, height adjustments device, base sledge, seat frames and control mechanism, arm guide and headguides. Also excluded are; skeletal parts of furniture such as blanks, unholstered or unfinished part of metal, plastics, veneer, chair shell etc. Also excluded are Motor Vehicle seats and Seats other than garden seats or camping equipment, convertible into beds.

  38. Waters, including mineral waters and aerated waters containing added sugar or sweetening matter or flavored, ice snow, other non-alcoholic beverages and beer and stout (bottled, canned or otherwise packed, but excluding energy or health drinks (liquid dietary supplements)
