The origin of Keystone Bank can be traced to 2011 when the bank was granted a commercial banking license by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). It would be recalled that the bank succeeded the Platinum Habib Bank also known as Bank PHB.

As of December 2012, the total assets of Keystone Bank was valued at US$1.916 billion (NGN:307.5 billion), with shareholders’ equity valued at about US$213.3 million (NGN:34.23 billion).

In 2017, it was revealed by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria that Keystone bank had been sold to investors for 25 billion naira ($81.5 million). The bank was purchased by the Sigma Golf-Riverbank consortium.

Prior to the sale, the bank was owned by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), an arm of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Currently, Keystone Bank has both onshore and offshore subsidiaries. These include 2 international subsidiaries and 1 local insurance company inherited from the predecessor bank which include Global Bank Liberia – Monrovia, Liberia, Orient Bank – Kampala, Uganda, Keystone Insurance – Lagos,  Nigeria, and Keystone Bank (Gambia) Limited – Banjul,  Gambia

First, it is important to note the Keystone Bank has one of the best internet banking services in the country. This service is available to all authenticated account holders of the bank. So, if you’re not an account holder with Keystone Bank, you will have to open an account with the bank in order to access this service.

If you want to open an account, all you need to do is to simply dial *7111*1# and follow the prompts shown on your phone. You may be required to include your BVN number before you can complete the registration. In completion of this, you will receive a text confirmation and details of your new account number.

Some of the things you should know when using Keystone Online Banking include:

  • It is important that you exercise caution while accessing the facility. You should also protect your Access Codes and Passwords whenever you are using the service in order to prevent exposure to internet frauds. This is why it is not advisable to access your internet banking account via public computers at cyber cafes.
  • When using the platform, always ensure the link to which you are directed is a secure link. Typically, the link should begin with https:// NOT the distinct https:// (note the second without an ‘S’ is insecure).
  • You can also confirm the VeriSign identification symbol is on the site along with details referencing Keystone Bank
  • Check to confirm that a security PADLOCK symbol is shown clearly at the top right-hand corner of your browser and the address bar should be greenish and uneditable

Apart from the internet banking service, there is also the Keystone mobile money transfer which allows you to transfer money from Keystone Bank to other banks on your mobile device with or without the internet. The transaction can be done anywhere and at any time. The bank supports a direct mobile transfer of funds on your mobile device since it works on all mobile devices from Android phones to iPhones and Feature phones with or without internet. The simple step is to enter the USSD code on the number registered with your Keystone account.

Some of the transactions you can do with the Keystone Mobile Code include:

  • Intra-bank transfer (sending money to another Keystone bank )
  • Inter-bank transfer (sending money to other bank users)

To transfer to other banks, all you need to do is simply dial *7111*AMOUNT*NUBAN Account Number#.

On the other hand, if you want to transfer to Keystone Bank, simply dial *7111*Amount*Account Number# from your phone number, follow the prompt instructions and input your security code.

You can also recharge airtime for yourself using Keystone USSD Code, simply dial  *7111*amount# on your registered phone number. If you want to load airtime for others, just ply dial *7111*Amount*Phone Number#.

You can check your account balance at your convenience and it is free of charge. All you need do is dial *7111*1# on your phone, enter your secret code and your account balance will be immediately

Recently, Keystone Bank updates its mobile banking platform by incorporated the USSD transaction codes into its mobile banking service. You can visit the Android, Blackberry or Apple app stores, search for and download the Keystone M-banking app. Then install the app by supplying the required details and begin transactions on your account immediately.
