Redeem/ RCCG Logo: Its Description and Meaning

The history of the Redeemed Christian Church of God can be traced to 1952 when the church was established by Pa Akindayomi in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

Although, the founder passed on in 1981, the church has continued to grow exponentially. Currently, RCCG has over 30,000 branches spread across the world.

The church has a vision of having at least one RCCG member in every family of the world. Also, there’s also a vision to have a RCCG church within every 5 minutes walking distance in every city and town of developing country and five minutes driving distance in every city and town of developed countries.

And it seems RCCG is obviously walking the talk with new churches being planted every year.

You can easily identify the logo of the church in different parts of Nigeria and the world at large if you’re quite observant.

The logo has a blue colour, red rings, white dove and green colour. In this post, we’ve highlighted the elements of the logo, their meaning and biblical references.

The blue colour signifies love with reference from 1 John 4.7-21 in the Bible. This type of love is Agape (Divine love) not Phileo (feelings) or Eros (Erotic or romantic expressions). It is the God kind of love which must be demonstrated to one another.

Also, the logo also has a red ring. This ring denotes the blood of Jesus. According to the church, the blood of Jesus is our covering, through which Christians overcome and are more than conquerors.

Overall, the Blood fulfills the following for the Christian:

  • Fellowship with God is restored (Exodus 12:13; Romans 5:8-9)
  • Redemption from slavery (Ephesians 1:7, 1 Corinthians 16:20)
  • The Blood of Jesus cleanses from guilt (Hebrews 9:14)
  • The Blood sanctifies (Hebrews 13:12)
  • The Blood brings Christians to God (Colossians 1:20-22)
  • The blood put God on man’s side against the Devil (Romans 8:31-34)
  • The blood perfects Christians in the sight of God (Hebrews 10:14)
  • The blood gives boldness to enter God’s presence (Hebrews 10: 9-22)

There’s also a white colour on the logo which represents purity, holiness and consecration. It is a prerequisite towards realizing the vision of the organization as an entity called RCCG. This is why the statement, “Absolutely Holiness shall be our lifestyle” is a watchword in the RCCG circle.

The references are found in the following passages of the bible, Exodus 28:31-36, 1 Chronicles 16:29-31, Psalms 29:1-4, 93:5, 110: 1-3, Isaiah 35:8-10, Obadiah 1:17, Romans 6:20-23, 2Corinthians 6:11-18 and 2Corinthians 7:1.

The Green colour on the logo stands for fruitfulness and reproduction. Based on the church’s conviction, God has made RCCG a fruitful vine and the biblical references include Genesis 1.22, 27-28, Colossians 1.10, Genesis 49.22, Isaiah 32.16, and Exodus 1.7.

The Dove which is an element at the centre of the logo signifies the Holy Spirit who is the Senior Partner of the Christian. The references are found in Matthew 3.16, 2 Peter 1.21, Luke 3.22, Acts 1.8 and John 1.32.
