Micro, small and medium enterprises are significantly important to the economy of Nigeria as they contribute in the following ways; job creation at relatively low cost, bridging income disparities, development of a pool of skilled and semi-skilled directed at prospect industrial expansion, and the contribution to the nation’s economy in terms of output and services, amongst others.

There are about 17 million estimated MSMEs operating in Nigeria according to the National Bureau of Statistics and the SME Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). However, there exists some challenges that face these MSMEs in Nigeria which include; infrastructure deficit, insufficient cash flow, and finding customers, among others. Access to finance is also another challenge that mars the smooth operations of MSMEs in Nigeria as the rate of interest is usually high.

Access to grants and funds, low-interest rates on loans, credit guarantee schemes are some ways that could help alleviate the problems that micro, small, and medium enterprises face in Nigeria. These strategies if employed would be beneficial to the MSMEs business owners, the economy and as well spur socio-economic growth and transformation in Nigeria.
