The Nigerian Police Academy was established in 1988 at the Police Training School Challawa, Kano, and Police College, Kaduna, both transient campuses which were merged and later relocated to a permanent base in Wudil, Kano on April 2, 1996. Presently there are several Police Academies in Nigeria with the objectives centering on the provision of institutions with the capacity to competently train qualitative manpower of the Nigerian Police Force and the equipping of trainees with solid academic and military exercises to produce law enforcement officers that are capable of effective discharge of dynamic police duties in the society.

  • Police College, Ikeja, Lagos State

Located at 26 Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State, this training facility was established as the principal police training college of the Nigeria Police Force. It is also regarded as a formation of Force Headquarters. The functions of the Police College, Ikeja, are as follows; the training of recruitment constables for service that ordinarily resides in one of the Southern Nigerian States, the training of all direct entry superior police officers and cadet sub-inspectors, the advanced training of superior police officers and inspectors and the holding of promotional courses for inspectors and senior non-commissioned officers. The training of police drivers, police signal and police telephone operators as well as the training of other students from other police forces, are other functions of the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos State.

  • Police College, Oji River, Enugu State

The Police College, Oji River caters for the training of recruits for service who are ordinarily resident in any of these states; Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

  • Police Training College, Calabar, Cross River State

This Police Training College is responsible for the training of police recruits that are resident in either Akwa Ibom or Cross River State.

  • Police College, Kaduna, Kaduna State

The Police College Kaduna was established to cater for the training of recruit constables enlisted for service who reside in the Northern parts of the country, and the holding of promotional courses for non-commissioned officers and constables of the Northern states. It is classified as a formation of Force Headquarters.

  • Police College, Wudil, Kano State

The Police College Wudil trains recruitment constables for the Nigeria Police Force service and training officers seeking advancement in the service. In

  • Police Training Staff College, Jos, Plateau State

The Police Training Staff College trains recruitment constables for service and also engages in the twelve months Intermediate Training of cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

  • Police Mobile Force Training School, Ila-Orangun, Osun State

  • Police Mobile Training School, Gwoza, Borno State

  • Police Detective College, Enugu State

The Police Detective College Enugu State was created on November 15, 1984, and is mandated with the training of recruits to the service as well as the training of police officers pursuing advancement in the Nigeria Police Force.

  • Police College of Information Technology, Abeokuta, Ogun State

  • Police Training School, Ibadan, Oyo State

The Police Training School, Ibadan is responsible for training recruit constables for service who are residents in Oyo and Ekiti states.

  • Police College, Bauchi State

The Police College, Bauchi trains recruits to the Force especially those that are residing in Bauchi and Taraba states.

  • Police Training School, Iperu-Kemu, Ogun State

Recruitment constables for service that are ordinarily residing in Ogun State can acquire Basic Training at Police Training School, Iperu-Kemu.

  • Police Training School, Sokoto State

Recruits for the Basic Constable Training originally residing in one of the following states, Zamfara, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, receive training that forms officers of law enforcement with a capable grasp of police duties in the society upon successful completion.

  • Police Training School, Ilorin, Kwara State

The training of recruits constables with sound educational background, practical professional exercises, and courses designed to produce law enforcement officers with the required competence to effectively discharge police duties in society. Recruits originally residing in Kwara State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja undergo the training at the Police Training School, Ilorin.

  • Police Training School, Minna, Niger State

The Police Training School, Minna caters to Basic Training programmes for recruitment constables, especially those living in Niger and Kogi states.

  • Police Training School, Makurdi, Benue State

The Police Training School, Makurdi is mandated with producing well-seasoned law enforcement officers of recruitment constables after the nine months of Basic Constable Training.

  • Police Training School, Jos, Plateau State

The Police Training School, Jos is charged with the training of recruits to the Nigeria Police Force service with sound educational background, and courses and programmes designed to produce law enforcement officers of high competency in the discharge of police duties.

  • Police Training School, Benin, Edo State

Charged with the mandate of training of recruitment constables for service who reside in Edo and Delta states.

  • Police Training School of Anti-Terrorism, Nonwa-Tai, Rivers State

The Police Training School of Anti-Terrorism caters for the training of recruits into the Nigerian Police Force service who originally reside in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

  • Dog Training School, Jos, Plateau State

The Dog Training School is faced with the mandate of training of police service dogs, the training of police dog handlers, and the breeding of dogs fit for service with the Nigerian Police Force.

  • Traffic Training School, Ikeja, Lagos State

  • Nigerian Police School of Music, Ikeja, Lagos State

The Nigerian Police School of Music, Ikeja was established to prepare student bandsmen for the examination held under the auspice of the Royal School of Music or any other examination that may be specified by the Inspector General. A designated Director of Music mans the affairs of the Nigerian Police School of Music.

The Police Training School engages in the training of recruits into the Police Force by offering sound academic background, high professional and military drill courses designed to produce well-trained and seasoned police constables that are competent in the effective discharge of police duties in society.
