About the United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA)
UBA has it is commonly called is a Nigerian pan-African group that renders financial services with its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. UBA group has subsidiaries in 20 African countries and outside the continent in London, Paris and New York.
UBA is a commercial bank licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria. UBA shares of stock are also listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, where the group trades under the symbol: UBA. The Chairman of the United Bank of Africa is Tony Elumelu while the General Managing Director is Kennedy Uzoka.
United Bank for Africa is not a leading figure only in the Nigerian financial market but also on the African continent. In December 2019, the group’s financial assets were valued at NGN: 5,604 billion (US$14.6 billion) while the equity for shareholders was NGN: 597.97 billion (US$1.56 billion).
At the time, the UBA group had an employment base of 13,355 people, of whom 9,787 were Nigerians. UBA Group has banking subsidiaries in 20 African countries and branches in the United Kingdom, U.S.A and France.

History of the United Bank of Africa
UBA was established in 1949. At that time, it was called the British and French Bank Limited (BFB). On the 23rd of February 1961, UBA was incorporated as a limited liability company. UBA then took over the assets and liabilities of BFB. In 1970 UBA listed its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in an Initial Public Offering (IPO). This way UBA became the first Nigerian bank to make an initial public offering. In 2005, UBA merged with another Nigerian bank, Standard Trust Bank (STB) Plc, which had a subsidiary in Ghana. After the merge, the bank kept the name United Bank for Africa.
After its merge with the Standard Trust bank, UBA group expanded to 20 other African countries and has branch offices in the United Kingdom, France and the United States.
