Nigerian clubs are becoming well known around Africa and the world of football after representations in some International tournaments and friendlies.  This article will discuss the top 5 football clubs in Nigeria and a brief history about them.

1. Enyimba International Football Club

EyimbaEnyimba F.C tops the list and is the most successful club in Nigeria. Enyimba means People’s Elephant in Igbo language and was founded in 1976. Its home jersey is made up of majorly blue and sometimes a shade of white.

The club rose to prominence after winning two African Champions League titles, six Nigerian championships and three Federation Cups since 2001.

It is reported that the revenue of Enyimba F.C is around 10million euros thereby making them one of the richest African clubs.

2. Kano Pillars FC

Kano Pillars makes number two on the list of top Nigerian football clubs. The football club is based in Kano state and was founded in 1990. The club has won four titles in the Nigerian premier league. Winning the league 2008 and successively in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

3. Rangers International Football Club

Also called Enugu Rangers, this club has never been relegated from the premier league and has won the league six times with its most recent success being in 1984. The club is based in Enugu State.

4. Shooting Stars Sports Club

Popularly known as 3SC, Shooting Stars makes the list as the 4th in Nigerian football history. Based in Ibadan, Oyo state, Shooting stars have won the Nigerian premier league five times with its most recent in 1998.

It is one of the most followed clubs in Nigeria and won the first edition of CAF Cup becoming the first Nigerian club-side to win an international trophy.

5. Bendel Insurance F.C

Bendel Insurance F.C has won the Nigerian premier league five times and is based in Benin city, Edo state.

Originally known as the vipers of Benin, Bendel Insurance was one of the founders of the premier league
