While Benue state community are enjoying the serenity of her environment amidst the removal of fuel subsidy, suspected Fulani herdsmen were making plans to attack Tarfi community in Binev council ward, Benue state on Friday night.
The purported attack which have left 12 dead and several others injured was carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen around 11pm.
An eye withness speaking to Vanguard said, armed men stormed Tarfi village around 11pm from Tarka a neighbouring village shooting sporadically and killing everything that stood on their way. They burnt down houses, huts, barns and farmlands.
Its a well coordinated attack.
Obviously, it’s the same herdsmen that have been attacking Tarka and Buruku in recent times. He told vanguard.
One of the fleeing villagers from the affected community, who simply gave his name as Aondoaver, said the armed Fulani invaders stormed the village around 8pm that fateful day and started shooting sporadically, killing everything human in sight.
Asked if there was any fracas between the Fulani herdmen and the villagers in the area before the invasion, he said there was no rancour to his knowledge that could warrant the deadly attack on the innocent people.
The Benue state public relations Moses Yamu confirmed the incident. He however said five persons died have been confirmed dead
Yamu said “yes I can confirm the attack on Tarfi village, Binnev Ward, in Buruku Local Government Area of the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen; so far we have record five deaths, two persons were killed in the village but three others who sustained injuries in the attack died on their way to the hospital.”
Fulani herdsmen have been a menace in the southern part of Nigeria in recent times.They attacked Uzo uwani, Enugu community late April killing upto 100 persons and several properties burnt to the ground.
