Ntel is a telecommunications company in Nigeria that provides 4G LTE Advanced network. The 4G LTE advanced network delivers superfast call-connect times, extraordinarily high internet access speed and crystal clear Voice over LTE. In a country like Nigeria with low internet coverage, Ntel aims to deliver more advanced communications technology across the largest possible network coverage in the most effective, valuable and satisfying manner and thereby transform the Nigerian telecommunications landscape. History of Ntel
Ntel began with the acquisition of core telecom assets which were previously owned by NiTel/MTel, these were Nigeria’s national fixed and mobile operators. These assets were purchased by NatCom Development & Investment Ltd. (NatCom) in a liquidation process superintended and approved by Nigeria’s Bureau of Public Enterprises and also a court-appointed liquidator.
This liquidation process was concluded in May 2015. The core assets which belonged to NiTel/Mtel and were wholly transferred to NatCom are:
- Operating licenses
The national carrier, international gateway and mobile.
- Spectrum:
Cellular on 900/1800/1900 MHz and shared microwave.
- International connectivity:
A part of the SAT-3/WASC/SAFE submarine cable system
Full ownership of the Lagos Cable Landing Station.
- Local connectivity:
Metro-fibre ducts and intercity fibre rights of way
- Infrastructure:
Tower sites, telephone exchanges and satellite earth stations
NatCom trades under the brand name ‘Ntel’. The trade of Ntel is currently limited to the 3 largest commercial cities in Nigeria: Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Although. there are already plans in place to expand to more cities so as to meet a projected coverage of 85% of mobile broadband spending in 3 years and about 95% in 5 years.
History of Ntel in Nigeria’s telecoms Industry
Ntel made its first on-net data call in Lagos on the 18th of January, 2016. This event was followed by the first Voice over LTE (VoLTE) call in Lagos on the 25th of February, 2016. The Voice over LTE was achieved in partnership with Original Equipment Manufacturers such as Ericsson of Sweden and Sony Mobile of Japan.
Ever since then, further VoLTE calls have been completed successfully in partnership with manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics of South Korea, ZTE of China and Tecno of Nigeria.

The LTE Advanced network by Ntel is designed on 900/1800 Mhz frequency bands and set in combination with Carrier Aggregation and Multiple Antennae (4X4) technology to enable maximum and average throughput rates of 230Mbps and 60Mbps respectively.

The 4G LTE and Voice network Ntel company launched the Ntel Nova in July 2017, the Nova Phone comes with a Ntel SIM. The Nova phone is a cheap 4G lite smartphone that comes with some other specifications even though it is Ntel official device. 4G phones are known to be expensive, however, Ntel has provided a low budget 4G LTE device wherein you can also enjoy the benefits Ntel has to offer.
