If you’ve never used Milo to make your beverage drink or spiced your meal with maggi when cooking, then chances are you’ve not had a good meal in a very long time.

Maggi, a bouillon cube produced by Nestlé and Milo, a beverage manufactured by Nestlé have been a very important part of our daily lives in the last fifty years.

In this post, we will take a quick look at Nestlé however we will focus on their products and factories in Nigeria.

But before we proceed, let’s take a brief look at the history of Nestlé and what the company is all about.

The history of Nestlé dates back to 1860’s when two Swiss companies were formed.

The first company was formed by Henri Nestlé who developed a milk-based baby food and marketed it across Europe. The other company, the Anglo Swiss Condensed Company was established by Charles and George Page, two American brothers that were living in Switzerland at that time.

Both companies rapidly expanded across Europe and the United States and would later merge to Nestlé. And in the succeeding decades, the two competing enterprises aggressively expanded their businesses throughout Europe and the United States.

The companies eventually merged in 1905 to become Nestlé. Till date, the headquarters of Nestlé  remains in Switzerland in Vevy, Vaud.

Nestlé is currently the world’s largest food and beverage company in the world. With 2000 brands ranging from global icons to local brands, Nestlé is present in 194 countries across the world.

Their products include baby food, medical food, bottled water, breakfast cereals, coffee and tea, confectionery, dairy products, ice cream, frozen food, pet foods, and snacks. Also, Nestlé is also one of the major shareholders at L’Oreal, the world’s largest cosmetics company.

In 2014, Nestlé was ranked 72 on the Fortune Global 500 and it was ranked 33 on the Forbes Global 2000 list of largest public companies in 2016

Across the 194 countries that it operates, Nestlé has 447 factories that employ over 339,000 people.

The vision of Nestlé is to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future.

Nestlé also works to influence people to live healthier lives in other to create a better and healthier world.This explains why the company has a global commitment to reduce the sugar in their products by 5% by 2020.

Additionally, Nestlé has working hard to realize three overaching ambitions which will change millions of lives and communities by 2030. These include:

  • ensure 50 million children lead healthier lives
  • improve 30 million livelihoods in communities directly connected to our business activities and;
  • strive for zero environmental impact in our operations.

In Africa, Nestlé began trading in 1957. The company was primarily involved in distributing products in Central and West Africa. It initially opened its first factory in Ghana under the Nestlé’s Products Ltd. This enabled the company gain a foothold in Ghana as well as other West African countries like Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.

As a result of Nestlé’s Ghanaian root, the headquarters of the company for its Central and West Africa division (Nestlé CWAR) is in Accra from where it supervises the management of the Company’s operations and aligns the 22 countries of the Region with the Group’s strategy.

This office is located at One Airport Square, 4th Floor Plot No. 21, Airport City, Airport Area in Accra, Ghana

Nestlé CWAR has a total of 13 Operating Company Plants, with staff Strength of over 6,500.

Nestlé Nigeria is one of the foremost food manufacturing and marketing company in the country. The company can also be said to be a leading nutrition, health and wellness company.

Their products include baby foods, cereals, chocolate and confectionery, coffee, dairy, and drinks. Nestlé Nigeria is also involved in the manufacture and distribution of purified water across the country.

Nest Nigeria Products

Generally, Nestlé Nigeria is involved in the production and distribution of food and beverages. These include infant cereals, family cereals; confectionery, bouillon, table water etc.

Infant cereals: These include Infant Formula-Nestlé NAN, Infant cereals-Nestlé NUTREND, Nestlé CERELAC;

Family cereals: Nestlé Nigeria also manufactures and distributes Nestlé GOLDEN MORN range.

Confectionery: The Nestlé confectionery brand is the Nestlé CHOCOMILO,

Bouillon: These include MAGGI Cube, MAGGI Mix’py and the varieties of MAGGI cubes include products like the MAGGI Star Cube, MAGGI Crayfish, MAGGI Chicken, Ginger & Garlic, Golden Beef and Classic.

Table water: The table water produced by Nestlé is the PURE LIFE water.

Nestlé has 2 factories in the countries in addition to several others spread across Africa. We have listed these factories below:

  1. AGBARA Manufacturing Complex (Nigeria): the Agbara factory is located at KM 32, Agbara Industrial Estate
  2. FLOWERGATE factory (Nigeria): the Flowergate factory was inaugurated in 2011 and it is primarily Maggi production facility. The factory is located in Kajola village, Sagamu.
  3. DAKAR Factory (Senegal)
  4. DOUALA Factory (Cameroon)
  5. TEMA factory (Ghana)
