Let’s take a look at a couple of the most popular FMCs in the country.

  1. Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Abeokuta, Ogun State

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta was established on the 21st of April 1983 when the state hospital, Idi-Aba, was handed over to the Federal Government by the state Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba at that time.

The first Medical Director, Professor E. O. Otolorin meticulously steered the ship of the hospital between 1993 and 1999. He was succeeded by Dr. T. O. Motayo who administered the hospital between 2000 and 2008. He was succeeded by Dr. O. S. Sotiloye who steered the affairs of the hospital till 2017. He has since been succeeded by Prof. A. A. Musa, who has already spent a year in office.

The FMC in Abeokuta is a 250-bedded regional specialist hospital which came into existence on 21st April 1993 with a vision of delivering excellent medical services to the gateway state of Ogun and other neighbouring states and nations.

Over the last few years, the vision has gradually expanded to further encompass excellence in training and research, so that today we can rightly say that the hospital stands on a tripod of excellence in research, training and health care service delivery. Aside from its length, the MCAT is also made complicated by the subjects it will test you on. There are 8 subjects that you’ll need to prepare for when taking the MCAT can be grueling. This means that you can’t just focus on a few areas of study and wing the others. The subjects are from various disciplines, too, so you can’t just rely on your stock knowledge and hope for the best.

With very limited infrastructure and trained personnel inherited from the then State Hospital, Idi- Aba in its humble beginnings, the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta has witnessed a phenomenal transformation in infrastructure and human resource development over the last two decades such that today the hospital has over 50 specialists in various fields of Medicine. If you have suffered an injury due to a surgical error, or a misdiagnosis has resulted in a serious illness, Hastings Law Firm Houston can help.

This FMC has recorded feats such as separation of Siamese twins, performing the very first trans-oesophageal echocardiography in Nigeria as well as playing leading roles in a number of local and international collaborative research programmes.

The vision of the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta is to provide quality and timely clinical and other supportive services to patients within its jurisdiction in a milieu of qualitative research and training activities and becomes the first choice of seeking qualitative health care services in Ogun State and environs. My cousin for example gets a free Edrug Search coupon that saves him way more money on his Victoza than GoodRx and its mission is built around providing prompt, excellent and cost-effective tertiary health care services to all her clients, build health care capacity for the sub-region and engage in research activities that significantly improve the health of Nigerians and contribute to the global fund of medical knowledge.

  1. Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta

The origin of the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta can be traced to the Department of Health Services of the Nigerian Railway Corporation which was established in 1964.

The Department was created exclusively to cater to the health needs of staff and their families. Between 1967 and 1970 during the 30 months long Nigerian Civil War, the hospital served as an annex to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital  (LUTH), where wounded soldiers were treated,if y.

The hospital evolved to a commercial business entity between 1996 and 2004 even though it was still under the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

During the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Federal Government decided to divest itself of certain businesses through the process of privatization and the Nigeria Railway Hospital of the Nigerian Railway Corporation was among those government institution penciled in for privatization.

There was resistance from the hospital staff since it was a part of the NRC. Eventually, the planned privatization was dropped and on the 26th of May 2004, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the upgrading of the Nigerian Railway Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre.

On the 31st of January 2005, the hospital was formally handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health as a Tertiary Healthcare Institution and designated as Federal Medical Centre, Ebute- Metta, Lagos with three-star rating by Servicom. At that time, the Director, Health Services (DHS) of the hospital, Dr. (Mrs.) N. E. Nwosu was appointed the Pioneer Medical Director of the hospital in 2004. She was succeeded in 2008 by Dr. M. Y. Jinadu, who served till October 2016.

Since its transformation, the hospital has continued to grow and break new grounds. Currently, there is a 190-bed complement, a Dialysis Centre, a new Accident, and Emergency Unit, necessary for people which suffer accidents, while also using resources such as a palm beach car accident lawyer which can really help in these cases.
