The Weather in Lagos Nigeria: An All-Year Overview

Land temperature measurement 

The temperature in Lagos tends to be high, just like what plays out in virtually all parts of Nigeria, especially during the summer. In January for example, the temperature measurement of Lagos usually reads 32oC.

The temperature tends to rise in February and can increase by 2 degree Celsius.  The general overview shows a gradual reduction in temperature from the month of March to July. The average temperature measurement during March is 33o C.

In April on the other hand, Lagos temperature usually decreases to about 31o C. This usually decreases further in the month of May to an average reading of 30o C. In June anyway, the temperature usually reaches one of its lowest at 28o C.

Rainfall measurement

The coldest month in Lagos is usually the month of June in which the temperature can drop as low as 21o C.   June is the wettest month in Lagos; this is usually the case with other parts of Nigeria too.

Rainfall can measure 316mm in this month. Since the average temperature in Lagos during the month of March is 29o C, this makes the month of March the best month to take a swim in the sea.

Lagos experiences the least measure of rainfall in the month of January and December; this is understandable anyway. Rainfall measurement falls from the month of June and gradually goes below 50mm in December.

Sunshine measurement

Up to 10 hours of sunlight is recorded in Lagos in the months of January. The month of February on the other hand tends to record 1 hour less of sunshine and this is the same for the months of March and April.

Sunshine reduces to average of 8 hours per day in the months of May and it tends to fall further in June and July with about 6 hours of sunshine being recorded in either month. Month of August however records the shortest sunshine period in Lagos with a measurement of just 5 hours of sunshine per day.

Sunshine measurement increases gradually from September till December and it can go as high as 10 hours again in December.

Sea temperature

Sea temperature rises with the temperature of the land in Lagos. The same description given for land temperature measurement also obtains for sea temperature measurement. Sea temperature can be as low as 26o C in the months of August and September.

It however increases to as high as 29o C in the month of December. The sea is hottest in the month of March, April and May during which the temperature remains at 29o C.
