Spanish football club Real Madrid has emerged UEFA champions league champion for 2015/2016 season after beating their Spanish counterpart Atletico Madrid 5-3 in a penalty shootout on saturday after the 120 minutes football ended in a 1-1 draw.
The match which was dominated by the Atletico side started in favour of Real Madrid after Sergio Ramos secured a lead for Real Madrid at the 15th minute of the champions league final at Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza otherwise known as san siro stadium, Milan.
Atletico Madrid got an opportunity to secure a better chance of lifting the UEFA champions league but Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty soon after the break. Carrassco secured Atletico Madrid’s chances with an equaliser at the 79th minute of the match.
Real Madrid secured the UEFA champions league trophy after Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran missed a penalty kick in the penalty shootout. Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo netted the winning penalty in the shootout, and Atletico Madrid suffered final heartbreak yet again.
Real Madrid’s victory have secured the football club their 11th UEFA champions league trophy. Atletico Madrid’s side suffered the second heart break after losing 2-1 to German Bayern Munich side in 2012.
