Nordica Fertility Centre: Can They Be Trusted?

The history of Nordica Fertility Centre can be traced to 2004 when the centre produced its first baby at one of its Lagos centres. Ever since then, Nordica has gone on to establish other centres across the country.

However, Nordica was established a year earlier (2003) by Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, a fertility expert. The centre was set up in collaboration with Nordica International in Denmark.

Over the years, the centre has grown to become one of the best fertility centres in the country.

Nordica is known to provide the latest and most advanced form of assisted reproductive services which can be used in the treatment of male and female infertility and related issues.

In the past decade, this facility has helped hundreds of couples overcome their infertility challenges; many of whom had previously nearly given up hope of having their own babies.

Nordica offers personalized care which comprises a team of well trained doctors, nurses and embryologists. Their approach to treatment is individualized which tends to boost the chances of conception

The facility also employs advanced technology which includes the use of cutting edge facilities and equipments in the treatment of the clients.

Additionally, Nordica often provides access to the research findings of the Institute of the Human Reproduction, Sybion, Fruebjerguel, Denmark as well as doctors and technicians at The Fertility Unit of Herlev University of Copenhagen.

The treatment cost is quite transparent and affordable when compared to what is offered by other fertility clinics around the country. At Nordica, they don’t underquote as a way of attracting clients but rather the company sticks with transparency in dealing with their clients.

The vision of Nordica is to set the standard of excellence in ART in Nigeria and West Africa and to continuously innovate to deliver superior customer satisfaction beyond expectations.

Nordica doesn’t just treat couples medically. They also offer physical and emotional support. The professionals at Nordica have been well trained to help couples deal with the various strains and challenges associated with conceiving.

The clinic also offers storage facilities which can be used to store frozen gametes and embryos.

Despite the popularity of the centre, treatment is quite prompt as they have sufficient hands to manage any situation.

Some of the factors that generally affect the cost of IVF include age, number of cycles, procedures involved and the cost of the drugs.

Usually, the success rate with younger couples is higher and when his is factored in to the treatment cost. It can make it more expensive. Below is the success rate of treatment depending on the age of the couple:

  • Below 35 years: 40-45%
  • Above 35 year:  30-35%
  • Above 40 years: 10%

If your egg or sperm isn’t as viable as it ought to be due to age, you may have to buy egg or sperm from donors which tend to increase the total IVF treatment cost.

The number of cycles is also an important determinant of the cost of IVF treatment. Below is a list of the cost of each cycle package at Nordica:

  1. Single Cycle package: N870,000
  2. Two cycle package: N1,260,000
  3. Three Cycle package:  N1,760,000

Another aspect of IVF that incurs cost is the drugs and supplements being used. Drugs and supplements can cost up to N200, 000 or more.

Apart from the listed factors, the viability of eggs or sperms is another important criterion. As mentioned early, this is often times linked with age. Usually, egg donation can cost up to N500, 000 while sperm can cost up to N120, 000. Also, the process involved can be quite tedious. However, an easy alternative to help reduce the cost is getting a family member or close friend to donate the egg or sperm to you.

Embryo freezing is also another aspect of the treatment that increases cost. This is usually done to provide back up for the client if the initial fresh embryo fails to result in pregnancy. If this happens, the woman can fall back on her stored embryo at no cost instead of starting all over again.

Finally, it is important to note the treatment cost is also individual-specific. As a result, a client can spend less than a million naira on treatment while another spends much more than that.

Basically, it all depends on the diagnosis and the result of the investigations. As a result, IVF treatment is not a one cap fits all procedure simply because people are different.

Nordica has had such success with the first fertility center, that they opening centres across Nigeria. These include two centres in Lagos, one in Abuja and one in Asaba.
