Nigerian Navy Recruitment Process

To join the Nigerian Navy as an officer, you are expected to attend the National Defence Academy after your passing in secondary school. After successful completion of the NDA, the candidate is commissioned as Sub lieutenant. However, those who already have a B.Sc degree from a recognized institution could undergo a 6 months Direct Short Service Course (DSSC).

Based on the stated criteria, qualified Nigerians are selected into the Nigerian Navy after going through a recruitment process. The process starts with filling in of application forms online where the different categories and academic requirements for each category are specified.

Nigerian Navy Categories And Entry Qualifications

The various categories of entry into the Nigerian Navy and their educational requirements are as follows:

Category A1: Marine Engineering Artificers. Candidates who wish to enlist in this category must posses OND in Marine or Mechanical Engineering (at least lower credit). Also they must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.

Category A2: Weapon Electrical Artificers. Candidates who wish to enlist in category A2 must posses OND in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (at least lower credit). Also they must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.

Category A3: Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Airframe & Engine). Candidates who wish to enlist to enlist in category A3 must possesCertificate/Diploma in Airframe and Engine recognized by International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO). Also they must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.

Category A4: Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Avionics and Aircraft Electrics). Candidates who wish to enlist in category A4 must posses Certificate/Diploma in Avionics and Aircraft Electrics recognized by ICAO. Also they must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.

Category A5: Hull Engineer Artificers. Candidates who wish to enlist in this category must posses OND in Marine or Mechanical Engineering (at least lower credit). They must also posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language.

Category B1: Marine Engineer Mechanics. Candidates who wish to enlist in this category must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language. Also, intermediate City and Guilds or Trade Test II could be considered. Technical bias is an advantage.

Category B2: Weapon Electrical Mechanics. Candidates who wish to enlist in this category must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language. Also, intermediate City and Guilds or Trade Test II could be considered. Technical bias is an advantage.

Category B3: Hull Mechanics/Fitters. Candidates who wish to enlist in this category must posses same qualifications as in B1 and B2 with additional trade in plumbing, Welding, Machining or Woodwork.

Category B4: Automobile Mechanics. Candidates who wish to enlist in this category must posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English Language. Also, intermediate City and Guilds or Trade Test II could be considered. Technical bias is an advantage.

Category C1: Communication. Persons desirous to be recruited as communication ratings must posses a minimum of SSCE or equivalent with 3 credits including English Language, Physics, Mathematics and 2 passes in any other subjects.

Category C2: Computer. Candidates for this category must posses at least 4 credits in WASC/SSCE ‘O’ level including Mathematics and English Language. Candidates with OND in Computer Programming or recognized Diploma/Certificate in Programming or City and Guilds in relevant fields will be considered.

Category D1: Seaman. To be recruited as Seaman, a candidate must posses SSCE or equivalent with 3 credits including English Language, Mathematics and 2 passes in any other subjects.

Category D2: Survey Recorders. Candidates for this category must posses OND in Land Survey and SSCE or equivalent with 4 credits including Physics, Mathematics and Geography/Technical Drawing and 2 passes in any other subjects including English Language.

Category D3: Physical Training Instructors. To qualify for category D3, candidates must posses a minimum of SSCE or equivalent with 3 credits including English Language, Health Education, Biology/Health Science and 2 passes in any other subjects. Main emphases are interest and proven participation in sport at least at the secondary/State/YSFON Level Championship.

Category D4: Chaplain Assistants. Chaplain candidates must have 3 credits in SSCE/GCE including Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK), English Language and 2 passes in any other subjects. Two years experience as Clergy/Church worker as well as letter of recommendation by 2 clergies/churches recognized by the NN is required.

Category E1: Writers. Candidates for writers must posses SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics and Accounts/Economics. Computer skill is an advantage.

Category E2: Store Assistants. Candidates for Store Assistants must posses SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Economics and Mathematics. Computer skill is an advantage.

Category E3: Cooks. Candidates who wish to be considered for Category E3 must posses SSCE or equivalent with 3 credits including English Language, Home Economics/Food Nutrition and passes in 2 other subjects. Any other catering qualification or proven experience as a waiter or steward is an added advantage.

Category E4: Stewards. Candidates for this category must posses SSCE or equivalent with 3 credits including English Language and Home Economies or Food Nutrition. Also passes in any 2 other subjects is necessary. A Certificate as a waiter or steward is an added advantage.

Category E5: Project Technicians. Project Technicians require OND in relevant disciplines such as Architecture, Quantity Survey, Civil/Structure/Building Technology, Electrical/Mechanical Installation, Urban and Rural Planning, Estate Management or Land Economy. They must also posses SSCE or equivalent with 4 credits including Mathematics and Physics.

Category F1: Medical Assistants. To be qualified for category F1, a candidate must posses SSCE or equivalent with 4 credits including English Language, Chemistry and Biology/Health Science. A pass in Mathematics will be an added advantage.

Category F2: Medical Records/Health Administration. Candidates must posses OND/Professional Qualification in Medical Records or Health Administration (at least lower credit) and must also posses SSCE or equivalent with 4 credits including English Language, Mathematics and Biology/Health Science.

Category F3: Physiotherapist, Public Health, Occupational Therapist, Dental Therapist/Lab Dental Assistants. Candidates for Category F3 must posses OND/Professional qualification in relevant fields and must also posses SSCE or equivalent with credits in English Language, Chemistry, Biology, or Health/General Science and Mathematics.

Category G:  Bandsman. Candidates for recruitment into category G must posses SSCE or equivalent with 2 credits including English Language and pass in 2 other subjects. Certificate in Music and proficiency in any musical instrument will be an added advantage.

Category H: Drivers. Prospective candidates for category H must posses SSCE or equivalent with 2 credits including English Language. Current Driver’s License, 2 years driving experience as well as letter of recommendation (as driver) from past or present employer is required.

Category J: Journalist. Candidates must posses OND in Mass Communication, Journalism, Photography, Printing Technology, Information Library, Public Relations, Graphic Arts, Film Making and Cinematography. They must also posses SSCE or equivalent with minimum of 4 credits including English Language and Mathematics.

Category K: Nurse. The requirements are Single or Double qualification in any of the professional examinations such as Registered Midwifery (RM) and Registered Nurse (RN). Credits in English Language, Mathematics and Biology/Health Science in GCE/SSCE are also required.

Category N: Education. Candidates for recruitment into Category N must have NCE in Science/Art/Technical subjects. In addition they must posses SSCE or equivalent with 4 credits including English Language and Mathematics for Science/Technical subjects,   or 4 credits including English Language and at least a pass in Mathematics for arts subjects.

Pls am a O level student an I want to become a Navy and also the course am going for is political science and defence study plz I did my exam two time the first I did I have f9 in maths and credit in English with other subject an the second one I did now I have credit in maths an f9 in english pls how will I done such result If I want to entered Navy an also in writing Jamb

Nigerian naval will not accept any fault education,without criteria eligible trade warant.according to proffesional course 23,marine legal reseacher rewarding master of sea trade,marine safeguard,to anchor our marine coastal legitimate fraudster,the labour of our submariner will not be in vain.edited by marine eagle!
