The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff on Monday said his office would not be empty until 2019. Sheriff likewise revealed how he was begged to assume the Chairmanship of the party.
Speaking to journalists at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, the former Senator clarified that he was never inspired to become the national leader of the party.
As indicated by Sheriff, the National Working Committee, NWC, and the party’s council begged him to lead the party when they understood what he could do.
Sheriff said, the NWC, the party Caucus, the governors every one of them begged him to assume when they understood what he can do. He said he never wanted to be the chairman of the party. On the off chance that Makarfi needs to lead, he ought to sit tight for the National Convention and if chosen by the party, then he can assume control.
Clarifying why he suspended the National Convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the embattled Chairman said he got court orders compelling the party from proceeding with the tradition, including that the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, likewise tendered him a letter saying they won’t lead decisions into three key workplaces of the party, which incorporate; the workplace of the National Chairman, National Auditor and National Secretary.
“Indeed, even the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, kept in touch with me a letter that they won’t lead any decision into the workplace of the National Chairman, National Auditor and National Secretary of the party.”
He kept up that the Party’s constitution stipulates that the National Chairman ought to head the National Convention of the party.
Sheriff further demanded that he remains the credible Chairman of the party, focusing on that his office is not empty till 2019.
“I remain the bona fide Chairman of the party till 2019 unless the official courtroom says something else,” Sheriff said.
On being declined access into the party’s secretariat by law implementation officers, Sheriff said, “When the police halted him from entering his office,he went to the IGP to grumble and he let him know that he was not attempting to stop but rather to secure him.
